Critic Reviews for Battlefield 1: They Shall Not Pass

Three of the new maps are fantastic and stand strong when compared to the base maps, but there's a strong sense of déjà vu about them. The final map, while good on paper, is ultimately brought down by poor design decisions, and the new weapons, while fun, are locked beyond arbitrary walls. There's a decent amount of content here, but it doesn't justify the asking price, or how long it's taken to actually get a substantial amount of new content in Battlefield 1.

The French Army's in first expansion for Battlefield 1, with four new maps, a new operation and new weapons, is undoubtedly worth acquiring. I would have preferred a new individual campaign to deepen the events of France's defense of its territory, but Battlefield has always focused on the multiplayer.

Four new maps, a new game mode and the addition of the French Army deepen the experience in the best war first person shooter of 2016. Finally we can witness Verdun battle.

Battlefield 1: They Shall Not Pass DLC is another impressive expansion from DICE. Ultimately worth the wait, the inclusion of the French army, weaponry and historical maps fit perfectly into the game. This DLC has something for everyone, whether you just wanted new maps to play your favorite modes, something new to sink your teeth into in Frontlines, or more World War I lore in the Operations mode.

I’m happy to report that these four new maps are unique enough to justify the addition and definitely won’t feel like rehashed content.

They Shall Not Pass is a rather good DLC, with a lot of content and a bunch of new, well-designed maps (especially the Verdun battle). It doesn't offer anything truly original or unique, and it's not exactly cheap, but if you're a fan of Battlefield 1, we find no reason why you shouldn't be roaming in the new Behemoth, or shooting enemies in the Fort Aux bunker.

One of the best expansion packs in a long while, They Shall Not Pass delivers excellent gameplay, and captures the spirit of World War I better than anything thus far.
