A nice adventure that has a lot of technical issues and some control problems.

What’s strange with UNBOX is that with the somewhat unfinished feel of some elements of the game I often wondered if it was intended to be a “physics game” along the lines of Goat Simulator and others where the intent is to have a weird feel to everything. If that were the case, though, the other essential part of that genre is a degree of humor and over-the-top ridiculousness to help compensate for the many shortcomings the game has otherwise. Since it is pretty well played straight throughout (random bad jokes involving boxes not counting) I don’t think that was the intent here so it brings me back to feeling like the game combined a not-great concept for making a viable and fun platformer with too little time spent to make the game the best it could, smoothing the rough edges that would come with a game where you’re moving a box around and trying to make precision jumps with it.

The music is pretty and the worlds are fun to explore for awhile. I think that it's a little short if you're not planning to collect everything, so if you want a quick 3D game to explore, give it a try. Don't expect it to be a package that delivers though.

Unbox: Newbies Adventure is a rough 3D platformer which is let down by poor controls and repetitive gameplay, whilst there are charming characters and fun multiplayer, the game's flaws are glaring and hard to overlook. Unless you have an innate hatred for Italian plumbers I can't recommend this game to anyone looking for something to scratch the platforming itch.

Unbox: Newbie’s Adventure packs character, charm, and potential, but fails to deliver on the goofy adventure that it promises. It’s not bad enough that your parcel will go astray, but any criticism lies more in the fact that wilder ideas were needed to make the activities stand out from the crowd. What we’re left with is a game that treads ground that is too familiar without many fresh ideas away from its main star, which is what nearly put the Global Postal Service out of business in the first place.

At a basic level, Unbox does have its moments, but unfortunately, it has too many shortcomings for it to overcome the many issues it has, in particular with the controls and the camera which can’t be ignored.

Game does not bring something new to the genre, and the fact that it has already been in many games, for example, in me, when that love LEGO Island 2 (2001) - although she was also a very controversial project. If You have nothing to do, You 9 years and You didn't buy a new Mario, you can see the Unbox.

Unbox: Newbie's Adventure does have appealing factors, such as a breadth of challenges and large sprawling hubs; however, the game is somewhat let down by poor visuals coupled with frustrating platforming sections that can often go wrong by no fault of your own. Unbox has released in a year where mascot platformers have returned with a vengeance, and unfortunately cannot stand toe to toe with them.

With so much being lost in today's gaming landscape from years ago, this is definitely a title you will want to experience. It takes everything we loved about gaming from the 90s and improves on each and every item but still sticking to its true core of a platformer. This game has something to enjoy for any lover of the platforming genre. From a very unique protagonist to and even more unique antagonist this game is definitely one you will want to add to your library.

"Unbox" is a majorly brilliant game with minor flaws that left me feeling anything but cardbored. So if you're into 90s-like 3D platformers, then you should give "Unbox: Newbie's Adventure" a go for sure.
