All in all, this was a lovely little game. It's not a long one mind you, you can 100% all the worlds in less than 10 hours - however, it will certainly be an entertaining ten hours, ESPECIALLY if you were a fan of 90's 3D platformers! And at the low price point of this game it is certainly one to check out!

Which is a real shame because I bet the multiplayer experience would have been a lot of fun, because the game itself is. It's not necessarily groundbreaking in any regard but figuring out the knack to controlling Newbie at high speeds is really rewarding. Some of the challenges lie on the 'childish' side of easy, but not every game needs to be Dark Souls, right?

Unbox: Newbie's Adventure combines the new hotness with old school classics to come up with something unique. Sure, the unpredictable movement takes some getting used to, the combat is a little lacklustre in single player and the vehicle control is awkward but it does far more right than it does wrong.

Unbox: Newbie's Adventure has its shortcomings, but what it offers at its core is all that you can really ask for. It's a proud collectathon, and the three bustling open worlds really allow this fact to shine.

Unfortunately, it falls into some of the some old trappings of the genre that prevent it from joining the great 3D platformers that it is clearly inspired by. Samey worlds that are larger than needed are Unbox: Newbie's Adventure's biggest bane; the game may have benefited if it had smaller and more concise worlds. As it stands, if you are a fan of 3D platformers and are intrigued by this game's unique control scheme, it's worth giving a shot — just be aware that it can fall victim to some of the genre's more frustrating problems.

While the mixed reviews of Yooka-Laylee made people question if 3D platformers were just a thing of the past to be forgotten, Unbox: Newbie's Adventure shows that new things can still be done in the genre to produce some real gold dust.

Newbie’s Adventure is oddly addictive. Even just roaming around the vast worlds as a cardboard box, taking out groups of Wild Cards with the slam ability and in general just chilling out is hugely enjoyable.

Unbox: Newbie’s Adventure is a platformer open world game that lets you experience what it is like to be a box. I never would have thought I would be enjoying this game. Despite the frustrations that it can give you, the game is so fun and inviting.

The “unboxing” mechanic breathes some life into the collectathon platformer and made it feel fresh.

Despite the outside-the-box premise and the unboxing mechanic, this package is a by-the-numbers platformer with a few rough edges. 'Feel' is a huge part of a platformer and in that regard, Unbox: Newbies Adventure is fine for the majority of the time, that is, until the physics decide to freak out.

Unboxed: Newbie's Adventure will be a pleasant surprise for many 3D platforming fans. Although fairly unassuming, it offers a simplistic, lighthearted approach to the genre with hours of fun to be had.

Young gamers are the target audience of Prospect Games' Unbox: Newbie's Adventure. There's nothing wrong with that, but there isn't much here to appeal to the older and more experienced gamer, something at which other kids' titles have succeeded.

Technical glitches and general movement annoyances are embedded into the DNA of the game, and it really dulls the overall experience of what could be a good title. The problems literally ripple throughout the game and betray any form of fun from what is, quite honestly, a rather lovely looking game.

While Unbox has some fun moments, I mostly enjoyed it for its mechanics and not because I found myself having all the much fun. I'm sure there are plenty of players who would find more in this title, but I just saw missed potential.

Overall this is a beautiful looking game with some decent platforming and gameplay, but it lacking in the content department. Definitely one that you should pick up on sale or if you see it in a bundle.

Unbox gets everything right in theory, but fails to actually deliver on the majority of its goals. The character design, the core ‘unboxing' mechanic, and the collecting side to the game could have been great but there are just too many problems standing in the way for it to be truly successful. We can't help but feel that the game just needed an extra dose of love and attention on the technical side of things because, if that was at the standard of the creativity and fun of the characters and ideas, it would have been a great experience and a whole lot of fun. As it stands, it might not be quite worth your time.
