Black Hole's intense shmup action feels far more suited to Nintendo Switch than its previous platforms, and the gravitational mechanic makes for a cool twist on a well-worn formula. It's a solid little shooter for one player to blast through with twin-sticks at the ready, it's just a shame there's no support for local couchplay to go along with its litany of customisable options.

Black Hole is a fun and challenging shooter that puts its own stamp on the genre. It's great value and, with a key feedback system, will hopefully get even better through updates. As it is, it looks great and plays well, and is definitely worth checking out.

Black Hole is absolutely fun. The concept is simple, and the upgrade system is nice, but the core shooting really drives the title. The difficulty level is balanced enough to make you feel like you're making progress, but it isn't so generous that you can easily beat the game in one sitting. It may not be on many people's lists for best shoot-'em-up on the Switch, but it certainly belongs in a tier close to that level.

After 40 levels though, there is nothing for most players to return to. Sure, there is room to improve on your runs, but that really depends on the type of person you are. As for myself, I'll probably end up going back to it now and again.

Sporting an extremely reasonable price in the eShop arcade shooting fans of all skill levels can likely get some solid hours of enjoyment out of Black Hole. It doesn’t aspire to change the world or be a revelation, but it delivers a varied challenge that I enjoyed. Playing through with all 3 available ships proved to be worthwhile as they each had their own feel and I enjoyed trying out different upgrade paths to find what worked best for me. It’s a great riff and improvement on a classic formula at a fair price point.
