Critic Reviews for Light Fall
Tricky platforming sequences prove rewarding, but most of the game feels old hat
Light Fall swiftly finds a spot among all the other Switch hardcore 2D platforming greats by offering not only a quality game wrapped in a beautifully unique atmosphere, but by successfully providing the player with a plot and characters that are worth investing, making the game very hard to set aside until you complete the tiny shadow-being quest. We found very little to complain about the whole package and as such have very little reserve in recommending you add yet another fantastic platform adventure to the growing list of titles already available on Switch.
Light Fall has some fantastic ideas and a great mixture of satisfying platforming and level design, but the fun comes to an abrupt end in the final world. So much so, it sours the whole experience.
Light Fall shows potential with its central premise and its core mechanic, but short levels, a run-of-the-mill story, and an all-too-brief campaign make it feel like there's some unrealized potential here.
Light Fall as pretty as it is dark, and with a few new ideas well fitted into older mechanics. It might be a little too difficult sometimes, but it's a 2D platformer with a story worth playing through.
Light Fall is a clever and artistically crafted puzzle platformer with a curiously compelling narrative and well balanced, steady rate of increasing difficulty that encourages you to try a little harder with each subsequent stage.
Light Fall is an interesting experiment, and it's fun to play through for most of it. Unfortunately, the lack of content makes it hard to recommend a purchase, and the endgame is disappointing. I've got high hopes for future releases from the developer Bishop Games, and I'd love to see this mechanic again, but unfortunately, Light Fall is too simple in execution.
If you can ignore its feeble storytelling and abysmal final act, Light Fall provides some quick, engaging platforming on an eye-popping canvas.
