Super Hyperactive Ninja is a great example of what happens when good concepts meet bad implementation; the coffee theme and Hyperactive Mode are both interesting things that could have potential if explored properly, but Super Hyperactive Ninja doesn't do so. Cheap level design, uninspired visuals, and poor controls make this a game that's difficult to recommend, but moments of enjoyable gameplay can still be found for those who look hard enough. Even so, there's no shortage of excellent platformers on the eShop at the moment, so you'd be best served passing on this one. If you're looking for a challenging, retro-inspired side scrolling ninja game, go play The Messenger instead.

Super Hyperactive Ninja has a lot to offer fans of the platforming genre thanks to a well-balanced approach present in most levels and boss battles.

Super Hyperactive Ninja fits in the realm of Super Meat Boy-style platformers, but has its own touches added in. Having to keep an eye on the caffeine meter while balancing the use of Hyperactive mode forces you to think strategically. The challenging nature can be fun and frustrating, but it's worth the time.

Super Hyperactive Ninja has a simple and silly premise that results in a funny, fast-paced game. It's not complicated, but it is challenging even to keep you engaged level after level.

Overall, the design of Super Hyperactive Ninja is fun and engaging, but I think that more could have been done with the caffeine theme to make it feel less generic. The music is good and though the gameplay can be frustrating, people who love a challenge with find Super Hyperactive Ninja to be worth their time.

Super Hyperactive Ninja feels phoned in. Though the Hyperactive Mode is a novel concept, the execution leaves something to be desired.

Between the bouts of frustration caused by the poor controls and enemy placement, I really struggled to enjoy Super Hyperactive Ninja. There is some enjoyment to be had here as it’s got a bit of fun about the entire premise but it feels poorly executed from the off. Do yourself a favour and pick up Celeste, Ori and the Blind Forest or Super Meat Boy and give this one a miss.
