Critic Reviews for Spintires: Mudrunner - American Wilds
With Farming Simulator having no-showed Switch in 2018, it falls to Spintires: MudRunner - American Wilds to fill that very niche gap. While it's still got some frustrating design faults that have carried over from the previous version, Saber Interactive has kept the core experience intact. The addition of the lush and verdant American wildness helps break up the dreary back roads of Russia, and whether you're delivering logs on your own or fixing and refilling trucks in multiplayer, there's a bizarre yet moreish satisfaction to be had. Now, when are we getting Euro Truck Simulator 2 on Switch?
While American Wilds doesn't add anything truly new to the Mudrunner formula, it adds enough new content to keep players busy, while also fixing a few issues.
The ultimate collection of one of the most intriguing titles on the market - Spintires: Mudrunner American Wilds might infuriate and test the patience of many, but those who can push past such feelings will soon discover quite the uniquely satisfying endeavor.
It's easy to forgive Spintires: MudRunner exactly because it has such an eccentric charisma. It should be dull. It should be frustrating. It should be prettier. But it has its own strange beauty and offers something refreshingly unconventional in the driving genre.
New players might feel a bit intimidated and frustrated at times by the many unexplained mechanics, but if the time and dedication is put into it, Spintires: Mudrunner can become a dirty but somewhat fulfilling experience you can return to again and again.
American Wilds brought back the same anxiety-inducing feeling that I had when I first played MudRunner last year. And, that's a good thing—it wouldn't be a real Spintires experience otherwise.
In contrast, those with a need for speed or a want for a Switch version of Truck Simulator…this is not for you. I would suspect several who buy this version sans advance knowledge will be done with it fifteen minutes in. Test: if strategic winching to escape a hopeless mud ditch isn't for you, than Spintires: Mudrunners American Wilds is a ‘pass.'
Sometimes you may feel like you’ve taken on an additional job while playing it, but how many games let you loose in sandbox environments with an almighty range of all-terrain vehicles? Exactly.
