Critic Reviews for WRC 8
With a beautiful handling model, much-improved visuals and a savvy use of the official licence, WRC 8 is a triumph.
WRC 8 is the most in-depth rally sim to ever wear the official license.
WRC 8 is the best game yet in the series and has a major edge on its chief competitor due to its far more accessible racing.
What WRC 8 gives in career longevity, mode variety and stage choice, it takes away with unrefined vehicle handling and some rough edges. This is still the best official WRC game to date, but bear in mind that until the driving feel becomes the main focus of development, this series can't be placed into the pantheon of all-time greats.
Making small improvements over previous games not only adds up to WRC 8 being the best in the series, it's also one of the best rally games around.
The year that Kylotonn took to get WRC 8 back into the top contenders of rally games was worth it. Its Career mode alone is enough to make you sit down for hours and plan out how to manage your team, drive your car, and meet the conditions of your contract. With the car's level of detail being extremely high, decent driving mechanics, and the bevvy of game modes being at an all-time high, this is a racing game that any fan of racing should absolutely try.
WRC 8 is fun, it's challenging, and it's frustrating, and with that license in tow, it's a great play for rally fans the world over.
WRC 8 has to deal with too many compromises, and it comes out smaller than its potential. It is neither insufficient nor broken but seems to evolve too slowly, without clear objectives.
