Red Wings: Aces of the Sky is a bland arcade plane shooter that had some potential, but simply didn't "take off". It has its moments, but overall, it's very mediocre in the execution.

The aerial exploits of the Red Baron are no secret. Military allegiances aside, his accomplishments behind the controls of his Fokker Dr1 Dreidecker are to be marveled at. Now, you can take to the skies and become the Baron, dodge, and weave your way through the allied planes and dogfight your way to brutal glory.

I’ll be honest, I came into this review not expecting much. However, Red Wings: Aces of the Sky fully surpassed my expectations! This is a pure game at heart. It offers up enticing gameplay, simple but charming graphics and hours of intense aerial battles!

I don’t think I would have enjoyed Red Wings: Aces of the Sky if I had played anywhere else but the Switch. Its arcade-like controls inspired by Rogue Squadron, short missions, and excellent survival mode are a perfect fit for a portable system.

There is no doubt that this is a visually impressive game with a healthy amount of replay value. It’s also easy to pick up and play either alone or with a friend. But the core gameplay gets stale way too quickly and won’t be able to keep your attention for long.

Red Wings: Aces of the Sky puts us at the controls of an airplane during the Great War. With a campaign that mixes true historical events with solid arcade gameplay, we will fly planes from both sides while facing each other in dog-face combat. The powerful starting ends up being simplified to an interesting arcade, although it aimed at much more.
