Neil Newbon Still Laughs Like Astarion In Baldur's Gate 3, And He Blames Method Acting

Each of our beloved companions in Baldur's Gate 3 have unique mannerisms that make them who they are. Lae'zels greets every good deed with a "tch", Karlach can make you melt by simply calling you "soldier", Gale loves chomping on magical underwear, and Astarion is… Astarion.

Capturing these characters takes a lot of work by the actors, and according to Neil Newbon, these characters sometimes take a while to leave the actor. He said he still occasionally falls back upon mannerisms of his old characters, and it's a consequence of method acting, which is sometimes hard to come out from.

In an interview with Luality (via GamesRadar), Newbon revealed that some of his characters' mannerisms tend to linger, due to his method acting approach. "You do get a bit of a come down where you're trying to shake the character off a little bit," he said. "There's some things about certain characters that I've taken on a little too much. Some of my laughter turns into Astarion's sometimes, which is a bit funny."

Newbon also revealed that he had some lingering mannerisms from his character Bryn, who was the lead ape in Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier. He explained...
