League Of Legends' North American League Reverts Disastrous Rebrand After Just A Year

It's been a rollercoaster year for North American and Brazilian League of Legends. At the end of last year, Riot Games announced that the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) and the Campeonato Brasileiro de League of Legends (CBLOL) would be amalgamated into a joint league called the League of Legends Championship of the Americas (LTA). This league would have two conferences, North and South, with joint playoffs.

The LTA North and LTA South also jointly absorbed the Liga Latinoamérica (LLA), the non-Brazilian Latin American league.

This change proved hugely unpopular with both sets of fans. The Brazilian fans lost the iconic branding of their league, and had their most important playoff series (summer) moved to North America.

Similarly, the North American fans lost their long-standing LCS brand and forfeited one of their automatic World Championship slots to Brazil.

Viewership of the LCS has been declining for years, but 2024 saw a steady resurgence, attracting a peak viewership of 260,753 during the summer split grand final (up from 223,943 in 2023). The LTA North 2025 split three finals saw a sharp decline, with a peak viewership of just 159,144.
