Did you hear the news? Highguard's been revealed. Geoff Keighley chose gaming's next big free-to-play shooter to close out The Game Awards 2025, and with full respect to the developers, there's been a certain unmistakable measure of internet-wide disappointment over the decision to end what was generally a very solid night with something that - at first blush, at least - doesn't quite seem to bring anything new to the table.
That's not to say there aren't folks who like what they're seeing from Highguard. And, to be sure, there are two whole months before the game launches to see more. But one gamer subset with a decidedly depressed response is the Titanfall community; that depression is years in the stewing, as Electronic Arts has done virtually nothing with the IP after finding success with the, wait for it, free-to-play shooter that is Apex Legends.
