Netflix Games and FIFA have announced a brand new football (sorry, Americans, but I won't be referring to it as soccer) simulation game to coincide with the 2026 Men's World Cup, but it might be a little different to what you're used to.
As revealed on the Netflix website, the game will be developed and published by Delphi Interactive, a developer that doesn't appear to have much in the way of a history (but which is currently working alongside IO Interactive on the forthcoming 007 First Light).
Delphi, FIFA, and Netflix are promising a game that's "fast to learn, thrilling to master, and built for anyone to jump in", and what's more, you'll only need your smartphone and a device that supports Netflix's gaming offerings in order to play.
The goal (no pun intended), according to Netflix Games president Alain Tascan, is to "bring football back to its roots" and to create something that "everyone can play with just the touch of a button".
FIFA president Gianni Infantino, meanwhile, says that the collaboration's aim is "redefining the pure notion of simulation games" along with marking "the beginning of a new era of digital football". Sounds pretty ambitious to me.
