Samson's opening trailers looked promising. It looks like the type of game that could have filled a Grand Theft Auto-shaped hole, while we eagerly await GTA 6. It promised a "City With a Pulse" and a "Story That Hits Back", with a GTA-style open-world setting.
Unfortunately, that promise came to a crashing halt upon the game's release on April 8. Samson is now the third-lowest-scoring game on Metacritic of the year so far, and its Steam reviews aren't much better, with a paltry 53 percent Mixed rating.
Samson is a GTA-like with a twist. You play as the titular Samson, who owes money to gangs and has to work his way through the city, building up capital to pay off an ever-growing debt. While it has a neat premise for this kind of game, it clearly fails to live up to it.
On Metacritic, Samson sits at a score of 48. This is the third-lowest of 2026, with only Code Violet (29) and Tokyo Scramble (40) performing worse.
