The reviews are in for Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, the long-awaited sequel to Nintendo's cursed Mii medley, and it's a clear step-up from the 3DS original. At the time of writing, it boasts an aggregate score of 77 on Metacritic with 18 verified reviews, earning it the 'Strong' badge on OpenCritic.

For comparison, here's how it stacks up to the first game and other iconic life sim sandboxes:

Writing for TheGamer, my colleague and lead features editor Jade King scored the game four stars, praising the "exquisitely detailed" creation tools and "bizarre sense of humor," while also criticizing the "underwhelming" progression system and repetitive dialogue. Unfortunately, she also got the Miis to say Skibidi Toilet.

Our sister site Screen Rant likewise scored the game 8/10, noting the wealth of minigames and interactions on offer. However, on the contrary, they commended the game for having "very few repeat dialog situations."
