Peter Molyneux pitched Masters of Albion as his redemption. This god game is meant to be a return to form for the veteran game dev, after his post Lionhead-career failed to impress. He has also insisted that this will be his last game, so it's an important one to get right.
Now, it's out in early access, and it's dividing players. While there's still plenty of positivity around the game, the overall Steam reviews are mixed, with some saying that Masters of Albion struggles to live up to the legacies of Fable, and Black and White.
"What I wanted was Black & White 3. What we got...I don't know how to describe it," reads one negative review. "Godhood in this game appears to be micromanaging, making pie recipes."
"The game tries to do too many things all at once, while... not really doing anything," reads another. "The main gameplay loop seems to centre more or less around a Cooking Mama-style mini-game. For the majority of the time, you will be making sandwiches, cakes, soups, pies, etc. Not being an all-powerful godly hand."
