'It Was a Miss' Xbox CEO Apologizes for PS5 Logo Policy and Promises Showcase Changes

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has acknowledged the recent fan backlash to the company's showcase logo policy. The executive also signaled that future Xbox shows may revert to the norm of omitting third-party logos from PlayStation and Nintendo.

Prior to 2025, Xbox had occasionally acknowledged rival platforms in its own presentations, most notably when Minecraft Dungeons was shown during the company's Xbox E3 2019 showcase, which introduced it as a game for the Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and PS4. The more recent policy shift, however, dates to Xbox Developer_Direct 2025, which featured multiple trailers with third-party platform logos. In a subsequent February 2025 interview with DayOne, then called XboxEra, former Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer confirmed the move was intentional. Speaking during the May 29 episode of the Official Xbox Podcast, the recently elevated Xbox Chief Content Officer Matt Booty said this policy was to continue. "We’ll be very clear about which platforms a game is coming to and want to continue the precedent," the industry veteran said. His comments prompted online backlash, with some disgruntled fans urging Xbox to focus on its own platform instead.
