This season ain’t gonna knock anybody’s socks off, and both Dynasty and Road to Glory have leaned hard into spreadsheet management this year, but smart on-field additions to an already good game make College Football 27 worth suiting up for once again.
On the field, CFB27 dazzles. I never tired of running down The Hill in Clemson Memorial Stadium, the pyrotechnics lighting the night sky and a swarm of drones tracing a Tiger above a distant jumbotron.
EA SPORTS brings NIL and the modern football life to the gaming world. The best gameplay in a football game to date, but elephants are in the room.
EA Sports College Football 27 is fun to play when you're actually on the field and engaging with the game, but there's too much going on off the field to look past anymore.
I’m still having a good time with College Football 27. It’s a fun football game that feels responsive and rewarding. I will probably spend a couple hundred hours in Dynasty mode by the time it’s all said and done. But the publisher has hindered this game with its live service ambitions, and I hope we can keep those shenanigans off campus for next year’s game.
Then, there’s arguably the most ridiculous, embarrassing, anti-consumer implementation of microtransactions I’ve ever seen in a sports game. EA should genuinely be ashamed about it. I like CFB 27; I just don’t trust where the road leads if EA doesn’t reverse course, and soon.
The gameplay feels smooth with fun new additions that make defense more competitive and offense more skill-based. The feeling of College Football remains the focus.
College Football 27 adds a whole lot of customization for the new year. From Road to Glory, to Dynasty mode, and even regular Play Now matches, there's something new for everyone despite a few technical hitches here and there.
