The Digital Fix's Reviews

9 / 10.0 - Metro Redux
Sep 30, 2014

4A Games deliver the definitive version of two often overlooked gems with Metro Redux. Worthy of the remaster title, both games look incredible on PlayStation 4, giving those who might have missed these post-apocalyptic shooters the first time around the chance to enjoy them in spectacular HD, all for a budget price.

8 / 10.0 - Madden NFL 15
Sep 28, 2014

Madden makes its proper next-gen appearance. Is it all good, or does it fall short?

Sep 25, 2014

GoD Factory is a technically competent and enjoyable blast created by a studio that have an obvious eye for detail. Ultimately though, it's a game that could have used a few more months in development to increase the launch content to a level which would have brought players back for more.

7 / 10.0 - The Sims 4
Sep 21, 2014

Every game in The Sims series has been followed by a spate of expansion packs which add items and features, but The Sims 4 seems to have been designed solely for the sake of its expansions. It begs to have things added to it, and many people will be left feeling rightfully aggrieved to have paid full asking price for it. The gameplay is as fun and addictive as ever, but while added features breathe plenty of new life into the old formula, they aren't enough to keep The Sims 4 from feeling like half a game. It isn't a complete misstep, but it's certainly a long way from the heights intended for it.

6 / 10.0 - Flockers
Sep 18, 2014

Flockers is a decent game and although it doesn't do anything new its gameplay is mostly enjoyable, with a few frustrating parts here and there. The game's humour and replayability are evident from the outset. The chance to compete against friends and the Angry Birds-style star scoring marry well with the zany premise, but the gameplay is lacking in variety. A dearth of innovation as you progress through Flockers only serves to hurt it, and by the time you reach the closing levels the game has already far outstayed its welcome.

7 / 10.0 - Hohokum
Sep 17, 2014

Hohokum tries to be all things to all gamers, attempting to fit inside both the 'game' camp and the interactive art collective. That it succeeds, somewhat, is a compliment to the developers and the artist, but this attempt is also what holds Hohokum back from real greatness in either distinction. It could have been a piece of moving art, an emotive experience based on experimental exploration supported by an immersive soundtrack. It could have been an innovative puzzle game, requiring interlinked stages of thought based on the results of trial and error, free to transform game mechanics on the fly to support the overall quality of game. What it is, is an attempt at both, and it comes very close to nailing those genres. There's no cigar to hand out here, but Hohokum is still worthy of your time and a firm handshake.

No Going Back lacks the punch of the first season's finale and becomes an analogue of the second season as a whole: an above-average game which has vainly struggled to step out of its predecessor's shadow.

5 / 10.0 - The Golf Club
Sep 10, 2014

Unpolished to the point of seeming unfinished in places, The Golf Club isn't a rival to the EA Sports Tiger Woods franchise but is more of a throwback to the hardcore, simulation days of Links. It will likely find a home with a specific group of players and the course creator will also likely add a ton of replay value for that group. The masses however may be put off by the lack of polish, the lack of progression mechanics and the tricky controls.

Despite the usual high production qualities, Amid the Ruins does nothing to curb the meandering nature of the fourth chapter which afflicts their franchises, once again leaving us with the weakest episode of the series to date.

Sep 4, 2014

Whilst not reaching the heights of the excellent Star Wars tables, The Walking Dead Pinball is a respectful amalgamation of Telltale's atmosphere and Zen Studios' intricate knowledge of the silver ball.

It feels like there's a very good game inside Divinity: Original Sin, but it's hidden away behind a thousand glitches and gameplay problems. At its core there lies an enjoyable experience, and those brave enough to reach it will likely sing its praises. If you're willing to battle through obscure systems, poorly designed menus, gameplay issues, a legion of bugs and glitches, and poor support from Larian Studios, you just might find something worth playing. For most, however, it will be a different story. Video games are a form of entertainment, but unfortunately, as the problems mount and mount, this one veers more towards frustration than entertainment. Ultimately, it's difficult to recommend any game which provides more negative moments than positive ones, and that is precisely the kind of game you'll find in Divinity: Original Sin.

8 / 10.0 - GRID Autosport
Sep 3, 2014

Codemasters are back on form with Grid Autosport, an intelligent, beautifully designed, visually stunning racing sim that seeks to rectify many of the complaints and problems from last year's Grid 2.

inFAMOUS: First Light is simply more inFAMOUS; if you enjoy the games then we recommend you pick this up, however if you're not a fan then First Light won't change your opinion in the slightest. We enjoyed learning more about Fetch's past and her neon power in the game, however the battle arenas felt a little tacked on and there only to fulfil the role of adding a few more hours to your playtime. Fetch is one of the best things to come out of the two inFAMOUS games this year, and seeing her take centre stage in inFAMOUS: First Light proved how good of a character she really is. Fans love her and in turn will love inFAMOUS: First Light too, a game that we recommended to anyone with an interest in the series.

7 / 10.0 - CounterSpy
Aug 27, 2014

CounterSpy has a lot going for it, its unique take on the Cold War is one we very much enjoyed and the cel-shaded art style definitely caught our attention and demanded we admire it. However, a few too many annoyances got in our way of truly enjoying the game, such as the occasional awkward placement of an enemy and the unfair situations you can find yourself in when you are overwhelmed with guards. If these flaws had been refined and tweaked with just a little during development, CounterSpy could have been something truly fantastic.

Aug 19, 2014

When wrestled away from its uncompromising difficulty Gods Will Be Watching becomes a different and wholly original beast. It is rather unlike any game before it. Scant few dare to explore such dark and dubious moral grounds, and the way it hammers such choices home with such brutal and stylish pixelated visuals is quite shocking.

5 / 10.0 - Sacred 3
Aug 18, 2014

Sadly on the whole Sacred 3 does a lot more wrong than it does right. The spirit of a good game is in here somewhere, amid all the lumpen, hackneyed nonsense. The resounding consensus from fans of the series seems to be that this latest installment is a pale shadow of the previous games at best and an outright betrayal at worst, more River City Ransom than RPG. From this newcomer's perspective, Sacred 3 is a cheesy, flawed B-movie of an arcade brawler that you might get a few evenings' entertainment out of before consigning it to the very depths of your games pile, never to infirm. I mean, return.

6 / 10.0 - Sniper Elite III
Aug 14, 2014

It comes across as a budget title - both graphically and thanks to the bugs that make it feel unfinished. This used to be acceptable - it was, after all, the epitome of a guilty pleasure, some gory ridiculousness to pass the time. Now it feels overstretched and too reliant on that gimmick, diluting the core sniper experience. In the shadow of Wolfenstein: The New Order, even shooting a digital Hitler (and, yes, even the legend that is Charlie Brooker) feels underwhelming. A greater focus on ballistics, not ballsacks, would serve Rebellion well.

Aug 7, 2014

The Last Of Us Remastered absolutely deserves a place in your PlayStation 4 collection, despite whether you've played it before or not. The improvements this remaster brings only helps to show you how much of an incredible, beautiful, emotional and downright amazing game this is.

Aug 5, 2014

It might not be original but it's polished and practical; not the most effusive of compliments, but a recommendation nonetheless.

Magic 2015 may not be on the level of Dungeon Keeper in terms of its attempts to squeeze your bank balance, but it does itself no favours either. Do yourself one instead: if you're thinking of investing in a digital Magic experience, get last year's instalment and avoid this soulless excuse for a game.
