10 / 10.0 - Ray Gigant
Aug 11, 2016

The monsters all look fantastic, and the artwork by Fuji Mogeo is probably the best I’ve seen in a game outside of Vanillaware. I’ve already ordered copies of Demon Gaze and Stranger of Sword City thanks to Ray Gigant giving me an itch, which I’ve yet to scratch.

Earth Defense Force 4.1 is a fantastic example of what games are capable of – being big, dumb, and an absolute ton of fun all at the same time. Lots of content, presentation so silly that it's heartwarming, and giant swarms of bugs and robots to blow to smithereens alone or with friends make me come back time and time again. It's a high recommendation to basically anyone – you're never so high and mighty as not to deal with some giant insects.

There are plot holes that could sink ships and enemies that are little more than 1 dimensional characters. That’s not even touching upon the massive amount of changes this game dealt with in localization, but I really didn’t want to get into that in this review. If you’re looking for more information on that I’ll place several links in the disclosure.

As I finished the game’s story mode, it rarely felt like I was doing anything more than mashing buttons, and while I did figure out how to do better combos later on, it never felt like they were necessary.

As I’ve already said several times in this review, Resident Evil 5 is definitely worth picking up if you want a dumb action game. However if you’re looking for a horror game, I’d say you’re much better off picking up either Resident Evil or Resident Evil 0 HD for $20 a piece.

Even with all of that said though, Extreme VS Force is still a fantastic game under all the glut, and anyone who owns a Vita will be doing themselves, Gundam fans and action fans a favor by buying this one. It’s a great entry point to the series for the casual player as long as you don’t let the story confuse you, and Gundam fans who haven’t played this series finally get a chance without importing.

To make a long story short, I think God Eater is a good game and definitely one that any monster hunting fan should look into. For only $20, the game is practically a steal to hold you over until August when God Eater 2 comes out.

7th Dragon III: Code VFD is a great buy for those who like RPGs with impeccable mechanics and want to add another title to their Nintendo 3DS repertoire.

Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness is an RPG that is built specifically for the PlayStation 2 crowd who still pine away for the mid-2000s and the days when Japanese developers hadn’t yet played Skyrim. Those who want another JRPG from that era that is unashamed to be Asian (complete with Fiore’s bouncing breasts, which might make up for Miki’s “diapers”) and delivers on the promise of taking Star Ocean into the current generation shouldn’t be disappointed.

Once again Koei has created a fantastic strategy game that plays surprisingly well on a console, while not as immediately comfortable to play with a control as Nobunaga’s Ambition, which I own on both PC and PS4, but perfer the PS4 controls more.

If you’re new to the series or a returning veteran ready to greet the little pink puff ball again after a long wait, you’re in store for a fantastic ride. While there may have been problems along the way, this has to be one of my favorite games to come out of this year. I hope you pick it up and give it a try.

In an ocean of indie titles that eventually blend in with one another, VA-11 HALL-A stands out from the crowd and promises you a comfortable and unbelievably enjoyable experience. Grab a beer, listen to the soundtrack, and enjoy.

8.5 / 10.0 - Zero Time Dilemma
Jun 25, 2016

If you’re a fan of the Zero Escape games, I don’t need to convince you to buy it, since you probably were already going to do so anyway. If you’re a newcomer and want to get into the Zero Escape series, play the first two games before you even consider playing Zero Time Dilemma, as it offers a much more rewarding experience if you have.

4 / 10.0 - Mighty No. 9

It genuinely upsets me, not as a critique, but as a fellow gamer that this game turned out the way it did.

Atelier Sophie is a good game, just not a game for me personally, but I got to admit, I do love alchemy now. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go and build some bombs so let’s wrap this up. I think I can confidently say that Odin Sphere Leifthrasir is about as masterful as a remaster can get. The standard graphical upgrades and such are all here in spades, but there are tons of additions and fixes beyond that leaving us with a great game that's certainly better than the original. And beyond the game just being a shining example of what a remaster should look like, it's a damn good game on top of it all, and certainly one of the best games of its kind in a long while.

Creative Assembly has shown that they have great respect for the universe that Games Workshop has created and I can't wait to see what they do with the IP next. Who knows, maybe next time we'll get a Total War game set in the Grim Darkness of the 41st Millennium, where there is only war.

As it stands, unless you’re a die-hard fan of the Dead or Alive Xtreme series, I suggest skipping this entirely unless it happens to be on sale. Until then, play something like Senran Kagura: Estival Versus instead.

9 / 10.0 - Doom
May 16, 2016

There is a wealth of content here for the singleplayer gamer such as myself, and while the multiplayer is fun, I can't help but feel it will be dead within the year.
