Niche Gamer's Reviews

I’ve already logged dozens and dozens of hours into the game, and I can already see myself logging in a hundred more, easily. Civilization VI is worthy of the series’ legacy, and further reestablishes the age-old “one more turn” joke.

The story is twisting and had me dreading what was going to happen at each twist and turn. The atmosphere was heavy and on many of occasions left my stomach churning.

8 / 10.0 - Heart&Slash

This game is a perfect example of what a Kickstarter games should be. The controls are responsive, it looks amazing, and they understood their scope of production. A great Rougelike that can appeal to so many different aspects of other action genres, it makes for a good entry point of roguelike gaming. Hands down, this has to be one of the best games to come out of Kickstarter, and one of the better roguelikes release.

SEGA went through some real work to smooth out the music and sound for this collection. Many might not know this but the pre SEGA CD systems left much to be desired when it came to sound effects and music. With the games being rebuilt from the ground up, its nice to see that they did not only focus on the visuals but the audio as well. This helps to round out the collection, putting it far and above any emulation.

9.5 / 10.0 - Owlboy
Nov 16, 2016

Characters within the story are vastly different from each other and feel like they have there own motivations, personalities, and goals. Nothing is 2 dimensional in this 2D world. And it’s really refreshing to experience a game like this. I would go so far as to say it could be a teaching aid for people developing games and stories in the future.

Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 is an amazingly well crafted action platformer, it’s just not a well written one. Spirit art is amazing, and game-play is fun once you struggle to figure it out what does what. This could have been an amazing game if they took the time to explain major elements of how it works and as well as the story.

The King of Fighters XIV is an odd beast of a fighting game that has tons of depth and great character variety. It’s not much to look at and it does a terrible job at teaching you how to play, but once you get it down it’s one of the most satisfying fighting games out there to learn and destroy at. If you have the time to get over that brick wall, this will probably be one of your favorite fighting games.

Koei went out of their way to listen to fan concerns and criticism of the vanilla game and provide the player with an amazing, worthwhile experience; which is why I am completely comfortable with recommending this game to anyone who’s fan of strategy games or Japanese history. On top of everything else, Koei continues to show that strategy games work on consoles, and my PS4 version is my preferred way to play.

6.5 / 10.0 - Shadow Warrior 2

The grind sets in hard too quickly, only remedied by the fact the game's fairly short. When the game goes gets a little cheaper and you can bring a friend along to play, it'll be a pretty fun way to spend a weekend, but you won't remember it later.

EVE: Valkyrie is an amazingly strong launch title for the Playstation VR, and VR in general. While being light on multiplayer maps and story missions you can easily find yourself lost in the experience, not even noticing that you have sunk a full day into playing the game. This is a VR title that will stay on my shelf and serve as a benchmark on how to competently make a VR experience.

7.8 / 10.0 - Furi
Nov 2, 2016

Furi is a whirlwind of amazing art and music, mixed with brutal gameplay that will not be enjoyable or accessible to most gamers when it comes to directly playing the game. For those who are skilled enough to take on the challenge, the game will be immensely rewarding.

World of Final Fantasy is definitely a game that any Square Enix fan should pick up, and I would say it’s almost a guaranteed buy if you own a PS Vita. However, as always, I have said just about everything I can about World of Final Fantasy, so let us know down below.

The real question, though, is whether or not DQB is worth playing at all. It’s hard for me to recommend it to anyone who already enjoys these types of games, but if you’re just getting into city-builders and ARPGs, I suppose this would be a nice primer for what to expect from other titles. Even then, for the $60 USD pricepoint, I’d advise one to wait until it goes on sale.

Bioshock was the game that set the bar for first person shooters last generation, and this collection proved that even after several years of good first-person shooter titles, nothing can really compare to that original trip to Rapture.

The most appealing part of Dead Rising‘s gameplay is that so many zombies can be on screen at once. Honestly, when Dead Rising first released back in 2007, it really was a game that showed off just how powerful that generation of consoles was going to be.

The overwhelming majority of people who played the game over the years and across all available platforms have made their praise of the game well known. Therefore, I feel comfortable giving this game a high review score. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got ballistics to secure.

I possibly made Gal Gun: Double Peace sound worse than it actually is, by all accounts it’s actually a decent game. If you can look past the games blandness, you have a pretty decent on rails shooter that can actually be charming at times.

9 / 10.0 - Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan is a unique experience for me. It's a great game based on a boring series and because Omega Force was able to make me care about Attack on Titan, I'm going to have to score it appropriately.

Mankind Divided is an amazing game that is just as clever, well-written, and non-linear as the original Deus Ex.

6 / 10.0 - I Am Setsuna
Aug 14, 2016

Yet, if you love JRPGs but think they need to leave the rose-tinted glasses behind, I Am Setsuna might not scratch the itch. It’s a shame it’s not more forward thinking but perhaps, should it do well, it could be exactly the thing to start bridging the gap towards a modern JRPG renaissance.
