9.5 / 10.0 - Owlboy
Nov 16, 2016

Characters within the story are vastly different from each other and feel like they have there own motivations, personalities, and goals. Nothing is 2 dimensional in this 2D world. And it’s really refreshing to experience a game like this. I would go so far as to say it could be a teaching aid for people developing games and stories in the future.

9.5 / 10.0 - Tales of Berseria
Mar 6, 2017

What's great about Berseria is that unlike most Tales of games, it acts as a wonderful jumping-in point for new players. Combine this with its ease-of-use and flashy combat designed to accommodate more tactical, veteran players and you have one of the most complete JRPGs you're likely to find on the current generation's systems. Tales of Berseria is a must play for any and all JRPG fans.

9.5 / 10.0 - Blaster Master Zero
Mar 29, 2017

Blaster Master Zero is one hell of a retro remake that hits all the points of the original flawlessly but brings it to the modern era. It general, it's a near perfect experience and a "blast" to play. You will be hard pressed to get a better retro remake that not only respects the original game but improves on it instead of just repeating it. This is a must buy for anyone with a Nintendo Switch.

The mechanics are interesting and there is always a sense that you are achieving something through gameplay. It truly is the game we need but don't deserve.

9.5 / 10.0 - Arms
Jun 21, 2017

Arms is an amazing game and a break out from standard Nintendo titles. It accommodates a wide range of players and play styles, and has enough in it to make you keep coming back to it daily. Arms, while competitive, is accessible by everyone and anyone. People old enough to remember the Virtual On series will be right at home, and new players will soon follow. This is a must buy.

Jumping from handheld to the big screen has been nothing but a delight for me. It's great to see everything redone, and not bound by portable systems' graphical limitations. There were a few bumps along the road, but most of my gripes are minor, feeling like little nitpicks in an otherwise fantastic game.

While there are lingering issues with Dark Souls as this is simply a remaster, they are largely inconsequential as this is a spectacular game. Sure, the game may simply be channeling old school difficulty and storytelling, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. If you're tired of modern games treating you like an infant, please give Dark Souls a chance. Enjoy undeath.

Pillars of Eternity 2 is an excellent CRPG that improves upon the original in every single aspect, as well as creating the best naval combat minigame in the history of gaming. Combine that with the huge world, 100 hour quest, supreme non-linearity, and immense replay value afforded by the deep character creation and you have the one game you shouldn't be allowed to miss this year.

9.5 / 10.0 - Devil May Cry 5

I really couldn’t be happier with how this game turned out, and I’m a thousand times excited for where Capcom might take the franchise next.

I think any fan of these two games can't really ask for anything more considering both games have been perfectly ported, in full high-definition, to PlayStation 4. The added trophies are nice, and the games basically feel just as they did all those years ago – they just look way crisper now. I really can't recommend this package enough, if only it had a physical release too.

9.5 / 10.0 - Resident Evil 2
Jan 27, 2019

In an age of jumpscares, loud stings, and a lack of genuine unease, the Resident Evil 2 remake stands out in a way that few other games have. Now we just have to wait for the announcement of a Resident Evil 3 remake. Please, Capcom?

9.5 / 10.0 - Anno 1800
Apr 18, 2019

If you’re looking for a robust city builder with a ridiculously polished set of tools and tech trees for you to live out your wildest industrial era dreams, look no further. Despite some tiny gripes, I really couldn’t be happier with how much Anno 1800 honors the series legacy, and further refines it.

9.5 / 10.0 - Katana Zero
Apr 21, 2019

All considered, Katana Zero will set you back the price of a good meal, while being more fulfilling than than certain AAA studios’ safe and bland attempts for over double that price. In the words of Katana Zero itself: Yes, that should work

Fell Seal: Arbiter’s Mark has earned the high praise I give it. Nearly every criticism I have towards it is a nit-pick, or comes down to personal taste. This is exactly what I have been looking for, and I think fans of this sub-genre will be to. It practically fell from heaven.

9.5 / 10.0 - Super Mario Maker 2

Despite putting a lot of time into the game, I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface of Super Mario Maker 2. There really is a massive amount of content here just waiting to be toyed with, and it makes me wish for more. I simply can’t get enough, so back to Course Maker I go!

9.5 / 10.0 - Shenmue III

With this new entry, only 40 percent of the entire Shenmue story has been told according to the game’s creator. While Shenmue III doesn’t move the plot as far as I’d like, I’m hungry for more.

Whether you’re a hardcore platforming speedrunner, or someone who wants to try their hand at a platformer a little more difficult than you’re typical Nintendo fare. I’d be hard-pressed not to recommend Glyph.
