After spending some intimate time with Necromunda: Hired Gun, I can only describe the game as incredibly average. Its really flawed and fun parts cancel each other out in a near-perfect way leading to one of the most middling experiences I've had this year. However, if you're a Doom loyalist and enjoy the FPS genre, there is some fun to be had with this mixed bag of a game regardless.

From the very first level to the very last, Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart is a true gaming treat that I thoroughly enjoyed and it was like being a Rollercoaster ride between dimensions. It delivered an almost flawless gaming experience that boasts next-gen visuals and mechanics plus an over the top and light-hearted story with two equally entertaining and engaging protagonists, Ratchet and Rivet. So if you're looking for that true next-gen exclusive on the PlayStation 5, Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart is indeed that game that makes it my first must play title of 2021.

Team Ninja have succeeded in bringing back Ryu in 2021 and while it doesn't offer anything new, this collection is a lean mean fighting machine and with the inclusion of 4K graphics running at 60 frames per second, revisiting Ninja Gaiden is a blast from the past with a modern twist and while the first game feels a little dated, this collection excels with the later two games.

Layers of Fear 2 may not be the quintessential horror-puzzle spookathon, but it's certainly a thrilling, claustrophobic ghost story that easily holds its own. It's at times uneven, and the puzzling isn't as interesting as the backdrop, but for sheer storytelling prowess alone, it's definitely worth setting sail on this ghost ship.

Though some mechanics haven't aged gracefully, Wonder Boy is still a lively and charming remake.

4.5 / 5.0 - Before We Leave

In a pleasant change from most RTS games, Before We Leave makes a point of being a non-violent city builder.

Beautiful Desolation looks incredible and the world is unlike any other, but the gameplay and bugs can often spoil the fun.

Outside of its charm, BIOMUTANT brings nothing to the table, and feels like it's lacking in all the important places.

4.6 / 5.0 - Returnal
May 25, 2021

The core gameplay loop is definitely not for everyone but the rewards for persisting are well worth pursuing here. The gunplay and movement feels absolutely divine and the "one more run" approach to the gameplay is certainly addictive and unique amongst larger budgeted titles.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition is almost a return to greatness and it's hard competing with the memories of an awesome game with a younger you. Thankfully Bioware have successfully paid homage to the old and more importantly, have spun their technological magic to draw you back to this amazing universe that they have created with new features. Sure, it's not a perfect release when you look at the current batch of next-gen titles, however it is a playable one and if you've missed this universe or you're a newcomer, there's some exceptional value for money in the Mass Effect Legendary Edition that will literally give you hours upon hours of enjoyment and yes, some frustration, depending on the difficulty level you play.

"Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Wrath of the Druids" is an incredible DLC and brings an enormous amount of new items, abilities, cosmetic items, and locations for players to discover. Ireland makes for the perfect location to expand the Valhalla experience, keeping true to the region's history, culture and beliefs. I'm especially fond of how much replay value has been encapsulated into Northern Ireland thanks to an endless supply of challenging side quests. In addition to the new raid locations, "Wrath of the Druids" takes the nice elements of the main game such as stealth and poison and brings out their full potential in amazing ways. "Wrath of the Druids" has pushed the bar even higher for the Assassin's Creed series and I can't recommend it enough to anyone who has "Assassin's Creed: Valhalla".
