TechRaptor's Reviews

Dec 21, 2019

Spirit of the North has much to offer, even though some of the finer points get lost in between the cracks, it's a journey well worth taking.

4 / 10.0 - Rune II
Dec 13, 2019

The bland monotony of Rune II removes the majority of fun from an otherwise exciting premise. There is a slim chance that problems can be fixed and more can be added, but don't hold your breath.

Despite a solid 'Mech-shooting foundation, MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is crippled by technical issues, horrendous grind, and repetitive missions.

8.5 / 10.0 - Darksiders Genesis
Dec 4, 2019

While Strife may end up playing second fiddle to War in his own debut game, Darksiders Genesis is a surprisingly fun and lengthy top-down co-op action game that both fans and newcomers should enjoy.

7.5 / 10.0 - Phoenix Point
Dec 4, 2019

Phoenix Point will appeal to you if you're a big fan of the new XCOM games but wish they had more complexity. If you're turned off by punishing strategy and a hands-off approach, Phoenix Point is not for you.

Blacksad: Under the Skin has a wonderful story, setting, and set of characters, and it clearly loves its source material. I just wish it also loved my time, as I often found it wasted by pixel hunting, pointless choices, and tons of glitches.

Arise: A Simple Story tells a charming narrative with a beautiful atmosphere in both its design and soundtrack. Controlling the progression of time forward and backward is frequently used in unique ways to keep gameplay delightful.

5 / 10.0 - Lost Ember
Dec 2, 2019

Lost Ember is almost a good game. Its animal exploration mechanics are well-realized. Unfortunately, it's bogged down by technical issues, lackluster storytelling, and frustrating event flagging.

5 / 10.0 - Shenmue III

Nov 22, 2019

Ambitious as it is beautiful, INMOST is another example of why you shouldn't cancel that Apple Arcade subscription just yet. It's amazing presentation and fun gameplay makes INMOST a must play title.

Pokemon Sword and Shield are good games that improve on the Pokemon formula, but a rushed late game and cut content keep them from being great.

8 / 10.0 - Still There
Nov 19, 2019

Still There tells an emotional story with well-drawn characters and some satisfying puzzles. It's a touch one-note and incremental puzzle difficulty would have been nice, but it remains a touching, narratively satisfying experience.

The Legend of Bum-Bo won't capture your attention like Isaac did, but its unique graphical style and strategic gameplay are well worth a look.

6 / 10.0 - Sparklite

Sparklite's difficulty is more frustrating than enjoyable to conquer. The struggle draws out the time to beat it and makes anything entertaining feel like a slog.

Fun puzzles and some truly spectacular designs for each of Luigi's Mansion 3's hotel floors make it a fun title for any Switch owner. It's also visually spectacular, but the combat is a bit bland and multiplayer offers no fun.

7 / 10.0 - Demon Pit
Nov 7, 2019

Demon Pit is a fun-size FPS experience that will keep you coming back to the demons for a new high score. It isn't the deepest game and contains a few rough flaws, though.

While there are a few fun games to be played in Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 the majority of the games will disappoint. 8-Bit mode is a nice touch but doesn't add much to the overall package. While for some it could be an enjoyable experience many players will be happier giving this a pass. Maybe 4 more years will be good for it.

While Killer Queen Black is fun in short burst sessions, you won't have too much incentive to come back without cosmetics and a barebones ranking system. Communication with players online can be difficult, but you can maximize your enjoyment of Killer Queen Black with a group of friends.

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD is a respectable entry into its series. The gameplay is as fun as ever, but camera issues and brevity keep it from becoming a true classic.
