If you like artsy games that are also fun, check this game out.
Rive wants to be special and challenging, but for all of its white-knuckled action, there’s little more than bombast. In the modern gaming lexicon, we tend to lump games into one of two categories: either they’re “awesome” or “awful.” Rive is neither. Instead, much like the majority of aging games it serves as a send up to, it’s completely and utterly average.
Some issues with its platforming sections and the fact you really need a controller to play are the only negatives I can find with it.
Rogue Wizards does a lot of things right, taking the best elements from two really good genre of games. Town building, looting, dungeon crawling and more will have you back for more fun each and every day. Though the combat sometimes suffers from troubles and the character customization is a tad lacking, Rogue Wizards seems to shine through where other rogue-likes cannot.
The overarching tale of 'Virginia' is more than just about a missing persons investigation. It doesn't take long for the player to tumble their way down through conspiracy and moral conundrums under the guise of rookie FBI agent Anne Tarver. While the plot leads the way and keeps the player on the edge of their seat, the gameplay itself is incredibly minimal with little ways to explore.
Rise of Iron is a nice addition to the Destiny-verse, but it's a bit overpriced if you're just buying the expansion. Although, if you haven't played the game yet, the $60 bundle is definitely a value.
If you’re just looking to kill sometime with a fun game, or if you want to challenge yourself to becoming a master at it, Clustertruck has you covered.
Livelock is a phenomenal looking game with pretty good gameplay mechanics for its genre, but the lack of any real community and a short campaign leave much to be desired. It is best played with a group of friends.
Gears of War 4 packs a great story, interesting new characters, and very sound gameplay. Its visuals are stunning to say the least, especially if you have a 4K TV that supports HDR and the Xbox One S. It's definitely one of 2016's best, and should be played even if you've never played a Gears of War game before.
This is one of the few titles I have played this year that I plan on revisiting over the years for a great time.
Aragami‘s gameplay and story is polished simplicity at its finest.
Payday 2: The Big Score failed to keep my attention from the beginning. A lack of communication, organization, and tight controls makes the gameplay frustrating and stale.
Zombasite has some genuinely unique and interesting ideas but its presentation and user-friendliness will be a barrier to some players.
While this game didn't really do much to impress me, it isn't bad. If they could patch it on the 3DS to allow full-screen it would make the game much more playable and enjoyable.
SportsBar VR from Perilous Orbit and Cherry Pop Games is now available for the PlayStation VR (PS VR), and while in theory it may sound like a fun experience, its technical mishaps leave it feeling underwhelming and somewhat broken.
Stayin’ alive is the name of the game—a goal that quickly becomes tedious thanks to an amalgam of frustrating visuals and a small arsenal of options.
VR Worlds contains five unique VR gaming experiences that all offer enjoyable forays into the medium. While each experience could benefit from more content, this bundle is still the best way to show off what your PlayStation VR can do to those who have never tried the medium.
The Assembly, while prone to cause motion sickness in gamers playing it, is still an engaging interactive drama that takes advantage of what a VR headset can do for gaming.
Telltale continues to weave its Batman tale in New World Order, which is quite short and devoid of interesting gameplay, but still a worthy entry thanks to it continuing the interesting Batman/Bruce narrative.
Mix together 300+ unique enemies with seven bosses, base defense mechanics, a great story, and plenty of weapons and gear available to defend yourself, and there is a formula for success. Some graphical issues and long build times hold Toy Odyssey back from being even better.
