5 / 10 - Cosmic Leap
Dec 26, 2016

Cosmic Leap could have been an excellent little game with a timeless and endearing art style and solid platforming levels. Unfortunately the controls just haven’t allowed the game to get off the launchpad

Whereas particular genre elements and features make a point of setting it in the past, 2064: Read Only Memories‘ outlook and perspective firmly place it as one of the best point and click adventure games of late.

Octocopter: Super Sub Squid Escape‘s initially funny concept is lost in its boring and repetitive execution.

4 / 10 - Beastiarium
Dec 22, 2016

Beastiarium sets out to combine horror and story, yet feels completely disconnected from both. In the end, so little story is actually delivered cohesively and it so rarely feels even tense.

All in all, Skirmish Entertainment have created an excellent action packed platformer full of terror and adventure in End of the Mine.

5 / 10 - Feist
Dec 21, 2016

As an action game, Feist succeeds on numerous fronts. Its visuals are gorgeous, and cleverly incorporating environmental elements into combat adds an interesting layer of complexity. However, inconsistent difficulty balancing and frame rate problems are glaring issues that belittle the game's strengths.

If games were rated strictly on audio and visuals, then Rad Rodgers would be a ten out of ten. Unfortunately, the gameplay itself doesn’t do quite enough to live up to the same standards.

For ardent fans of Forza Horizon 3, Blizzard Mountain does not disappoint. It offers more of the sublime racing action that the series is known for, but in yet another environment that keeps the experience feeling fresh and engaging.

Ties That Bind is a fantastic introduction to The Walking Dead: A New Frontier. The story is incredibly well created, still managing to feel fresh despite the amount of baggage its carrying from two previous seasons of diverging narrative.

A New Frontier is shaping up to be a brilliant season, and I can’t wait to see how Episode 3 pans out.

City of Lights has some of the best storytelling that Telltale has ever accomplished; it's no wonder story is what they're most known for.

7 / 10 - Rolling Bob
Dec 16, 2016

Rolling Bob, though by no means groundbreaking, is perhaps best described as harmless side-scrolling fun. It may not excel in the visual department and may suffer from some technical issues early on, but when knee-deep in one of the game’s fun puzzle-platformer levels it’s hard not to find yourself tense and gripped.

Though funny at almost every turn and a rather competent first game from Billy Goat Entertainment, the fact that Her Majesty’s Spiffing leaves you flat-footed on a cliff-hanger that may never be resolved is a real shame.

I can’t get the thought out of my head that life’s too short to play a game that is so, well, mundane. I guess what I’m saying is that for those of you who love bridges and hate monsters and explosions, Bridge Constructor is the one for you. For the rest of us, there’s Gears of War 4.

4 / 10 - Ace Banana

If you’re dying to have a shooting gallery type game for PSVR, there are better options. There are more fleshed-out titles, for equal or less cash, than Ace Banana.

Even with its short length and minor sound issues, I still enjoyed every moment of The Little Acre. Its subtle humour, art style, and heartwarming story wrap up into one of my favourite games of the year.

7 / 10 - Dungeon Souls

I have the feeling that Lamina Studios were going for a ‘Best of Roguelikes’ with Dungeon Souls, but it ends up as more of a showcase of the best and worst the genre has to offer.

I have never, in my three decades plus of gaming been as motivated to save another video game character as I was during the last act of The Last Guardian.

If you fancy spending some time flying around craggy mountains or crashing down snowy slopes… Steep is your best choice. Whether played alone or with friends, it’ll meet your extreme sports needs and more without the risk of breaking an arm or a leg.
