Highly-recommended purchase for fans of the Action-RPG genre, people who gamed in the 90’s, and anyone wishing to study video games as art. And with such a low price tag, Hyper Light Drifter is a no-brainer.
Despite its impotent story, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is a wonderful return to form that old-school and new-school fans of RE alike of RE should not miss.
For Honor is completely unlike anything else on the market due, primarily, to its deep combat. Players can easily sink hundreds of hours into the game with so many customization options for twelve different classes. The weak campaign and one-sided Deathmatch battles are, thankfully, not a killing blow.
Grimm Eclipse is full of fun, mindless combat. Though it lacks a certain level of polish, it does represent the series very strongly. Unfortunately, replayability is limited if players don't have a team of friends to fight Grimm alongside.
Good, but never achieving full greatness, there's a lot to like about Mega Battle, and there's a lot to not.
The Season Pass makes Star Wars Battlefront a more complete product, The first three expansions offer a great variety in maps and game modes, but the Rogue One DLC located on Scarif just feels less than stellar. Those who didn't want to pay full price for the Season Pass should grab it at the new price of $29.99
Batman: The TellTale Series is a must-buy for any Batman or TellTale Games fan. If players can get through the first two episodes, the final three episodes reflect exactly what is so great about TellTale's writing, character design, and gameplay innovations. If you received Arkham Knight or Return to Arkham over the holidays and you still need to scratch that Batman-gaming itch, then Batman: The TellTale series is the refreshing remedy you need.
For a shooting simulator, Lethal VR is on target.
Fans of all things Batman: if you have not yet checked out Batman: The Telltale Series, now is the perfect time to do; it gets better with every episode. Episode 4: Guardian of Gotham shows a Bruce Wayne fighting a war for Gotham on two fronts: the war in his mind and the physical war against the Children of Arkham. Thankfully, Bruce can always rely on his wits to get him out of a jam, because, thanks to newly-aggressive enemies, he can no longer put his full trust behind his tech and gadgets. With less of an opportunity to wear the cape and cowl of The Dark Knight, Bruce is perhaps the most vulnerable he has ever been in this episode. Telltale has humanized Bruce Wayne/Batman, making him seem like less of a super hero and more of an Average Joe, which isn’t a bad thing, as it makes him far more relatable.
The fact that players cannot share and play others' courses on the 3DS through a complete course browser is the single thing that holds this version back. With the Super Mario Challenge and the fluid mechanics intact, we still have a solid product in Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS.
Silence offers an interesting, heartfelt experience, albeit a short one.
Dead Rising 4 is the game the previous three Dead Rising titles should have been. With no time limit to speak of, players are given free reign to play how they want, when they want, as often as they want. This is perhaps the most liberating and accessible Dead Rising yet, and the series is all the better for it. Fans of Dead Rising should not miss this latest installment.
The Last Guardian is well worth the wait! The storyline is compelling and grips you right from the beginning. The characters are endearing, taking on lives of their own as they form a bond that is the heart and soul of the story. The gameplay is challenging but fair, the visuals are absolutely cinematic, and the game is one that can be replayed over and over without losing any of its charm. Any fan of the previous games will adore this addition to the series, and newcomers can easily find their roots in the series within The Last Guardian.
Killing Floor 2 is an excellent addition to the sub-genre it helped pioneer with its predecessor. As far as wave-based, cooperative multiplayer shooters go, Killing Floor 2 is the most addicting and fun one that I have played to date. With a quirky cast of mercenaries, buckets of blood and gore, and a rocking, heavy metal soundtrack, fans of DOOM, Gears of War's Horde mode, and Left 4 Dead will find a lot to love.
Mekazoo is a great callback to the platformers we all know and love, especially with its cast of playable characters that drive the gameplay. A pretty decent level of challenge is present, yet the younger audience it looks to be made for may not be able to grasp it.
While not without its faults, Tyranny is an exciting, streamlined RPG experience with an incredibly immersive world and surprisingly deep characters. Between excellent presentation, skill and spellcrafting systems that are tons of fun to tinker with, and a story that will most certainly leave you wanting more, Tyranny stands on its own as another terrific showing by Obsidian.
Overall, WATCH_DOGS 2 is the most fun I have had with an open-world game this year. From a cast of characters almost anyone can empathize with, to a fun, diverse array of missions and side quests, there’s so much to love. Ubisoft has essentially done the exact same thing they did with Assassin’s Creed—taking an innovative, yet flawed, new IP and improving nearly every aspect of it with player feedback. Fans of the original should definitely pick it up, and series newcomers will find a lot to love.
Marvel Pinball: Epic Collection Vol 1 is a fantastic pinball collection at a reasonable price. Every table is a blast from the themed content to all the little flourishes craftily designed into each table. The game looks and sounds excellent, is family-friendly, and you can play split-screen or hotseat with a friend! Fans of pinball or Marvel properties should definitely consider picking this one up.
Yomawari: Night Alone is a cute, but bone-chilling game that will make players want to never walk their dogs at night, and if they do, have cell phones with flashlights on at all times.
The final episode encourages players to think resourcefully by having players go in empty handed. Things don't exactly wrap up the way they should, since the stage is set for a future season. This latest addition to the Hitman serie has proved to be a solid product, but nothing more.
