It's baffling how Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric draws inspiration from such good sources but fails at delivering almost everything it promises. Burdened by technical problems, a lackluster plot, confusing exploration mechanics and empty settings, Rise of Lyric needed a complete overhaul before being released.

And the wait for an outstanding, groundbreaking Sonic continues. Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal does not live up to the expectations due to a dull level design, a sub-par outlook and gameplay that is simply not compelling.

Pier Solar and the Great Architects is a welcome effort of creating a piece of work in the contemporary age that follows a format of the mid-1990s. Its narrative is well structured and the visual interface is very appealing, but the game also suffers from several technical flaws and its combat system quickly becomes repetitive and tedious.

7 / 10 - Chariot
Feb 1, 2015

The game offers a varied and fun experience, despite its occasional moments of frustration which will require some preparation from the players. A detailed graphical environment and a very fun multiplayer mode ensure that Chariot will be appreciated by players of all tastes.

Majora's Mask 3D is all that a remake of the original could ask for. Not only does Nintendo deliver the original's immersive plot, extremely challenging temples, multiple side-quests and the overall gloom and sorrow that surrounds the adventure, it still finds space for improvements, even at a handheld level. Let the inexperienced be warned, though: this will not go easy on the newly-arrived.

7 / 10 - Spy Chameleon
Feb 9, 2015

Spy Chameleon is an accessible puzzle game that departs from an attractive premise. While it does not stand out clearly above everything else on the market, it does have a wide array of levels and welcomes players of any level of experience.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate brings an enormous amount of content that will easily break the scale of longevity for many players. Offering high production values, a very methodic and in-depth combat system, as well as an excellent multiplayer mode, this is a game that cannot go unappreciated by those who appreciate a good adventure.

Gunman Clive 2 is a welcome platformer, designed on a similar track as other 2D action platformers. Its art style sets it apart, though, and the marvelous details and graphical environment are a delight to look at. On the downside, its lifespan feels shorter and some instances, such as the flying stages, feel out of place.

The level editor is an excellent choice to add to the game and the possibility to download its version released for the other console upon purchase is a welcoming sign from Nintendo. It could improve, though, by showing more original content when compared to its predecessors.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3D brings to the New 3DS what was one of the best games released for the Wii in all its JRPG glory. While some technical aspects are clearly downgraded, this does not affect the overall experience of the game and with an enormous gameplay and world to explore, this Xenoblade port is an excellent opportunity for newcomers.

Titan Attack is based on a tribute to Space Invaders but includes several contemporary innovations. While the game is long and entertaining enough, the 3DS conversion needed more work and its price is too exaggerated for what the game provides.

7 / 10 - The Fall
Apr 2, 2015

The control system needs some improvement, though, and the voice acting is far from the best ever done, but the narrative and exploration suit well those who are looking for a sci fi adventure in the Wii U's eShop.

Gets several points right, especially its artwork and visual environment. There's a lot of content to unlock and its difficulty curve is balanced enough. Where it fails is on providing a more captivating gameplay, as the game forces the players to constantly look down to their GamePads, wasting time in the process.

8 / 10 - OlliOlli
Apr 18, 2015

OlliOlli clearly stands out as a fun, addictive, frantic and extensive game, free from boasting grandeur but very involving nonetheless. The cross-buy possibility is another point in its favour and hopefully something that will become more disseminate in the future. It could have landed earlier on Nintendo's eShop, but this doesn't make it any less recommendable or fun.

8 / 10 - Boxboy
Apr 22, 2015

Boxboy is a fun and addictive puzzle game that is certain to keep players around it for some time, not just because of its mechanics but also because it introduces new ideas and challenges at a very high pace. It only suffers from its washed away visual style, which could have used more work, even for a game of this genre.

This is a game that makes strategic thinking very difficult and the shallow plot and undeveloped character progression further downgrade its RPG credentials. On the other hand, it does have an attractive action component, rich and enticing visual and sound environments and a well-implemented steam-as-fuel mechanic.

Trine's first entry is a marvelously-crafted mix of RPG and platforms which includes ingenious level design, a very attractive audio-visual component and a very captivating storyline. It might not excel as much as its sequel but it works as a perfect introduction to the series.

7 / 10 - Splatoon
May 26, 2015

A strong emphasis on its online mechanics means that most of Splatoon is to be experienced on a multiplayer basis, which would be at a higher level if all future options and contents were already available. Given the importance of cooperative online play and team work, it's also difficult to understand why there's no voice chat but despite this shortcoming, Splatoon has all conditions to become a must have classic, once all the contents are made available.

7 / 10 - Ultratron
May 28, 2015

Ultraton is a fun and addictive arcade-style shooter which in many ways follows an old-school pattern of gameplay. It could surely benefit from a more extended lifespan and more variety on the attack patterns of the bosses but it still stands as one of the most fun shooters available on the Wii U's digital market.

6 / 10 - Elliot Quest
Jun 8, 2015

Elliot Quest boasts a charming retro look and sound environment and its dungeons are very well designed and laid out. Unfortunately its performance is way below par and its gameplay mechanics make it too difficult and repetitive to play, while the locations outside the dungeons are too confusing to keep track of.
