For switch owners who only want to do a short quest here and there, Snack World: The Treasure Hunt Gold is definitely the right choice. The short quests can be completed quickly on the bus or on the way to work. But they are not really captivating and even reminded me of one or the other mobile game, which can be played quite nicely for a few minutes every day, but doesn't offer any depth. The level 5 studios have left a lot of potential behind and offer a maximum of average fare, which can hardly motivate in the long run. After all: The online mode is mostly stable and players who want to play the same quest can be found enough at the moment. Nevertheless there is a lack of content, especially in the endgame. To bridge short distances, Snackworld: The Treasure Hunt Gold is ideal - for the home screen, however, it is unfortunately a rather boring waste of time.

That the Ghostbusters are cult, I don't need to repeat here actually. Nevertheless, the re-release of a good game after ten years left me rather cold. The graphic doesn't pull a player from his stool anymore in 2019 and even the tough ghost-hunter fan would have wished for a different remaster. The bottom line for me is only the note satisfying and the reference to the fact that in this case it's probably worth picking up the original. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to the third film and hope that this basically great series will experience its worthy restart.

Unscored - Tangle Tower
Oct 29, 2019

The game idea is traditionally good, the story interesting, the puzzles good, the ideas and loving details abundant: I was about to recommend Tangle Tower as a real alternative to Professor Layton - when the game was suddenly far too early, far too abrupt and above all over with far too many open questions and logic holes. All the work and effort that SFB Games put into character drawing and building a great mystery in the first few hours suddenly coincides like a house of cards. Maybe it was due to a lack of time or resources - after all, there aren't even any puzzles left towards the end. Tangle Towers should be a little adventure pearl with its quirky characters, high-quality presentation and good puzzles - but it stumbles over a much too early, abrupt and illogical ending.

Unscored - World War Z
May 13, 2019

When it comes to zombies, I MUST have a look - and look, World War Z is a hell of a lot of fun. When you are exposed to this gigantic zombie mass for the first time and desperately try to hold a position, your fingers get sweaty. Especially at the beginning it's these moments that hide many technical shortcomings. But after several hours the "Oh, man!" and "Fuck, really now?" moments accumulate. If the developers diligently polish up here and add new content as planned, then these annoyances gradually disappear and allow an undisturbed look at a surprisingly good and fun co-op game, which could actually be a serious alternative to Valves' aging king on the Undead Throne.

Unscored - Truberbrook
Mar 21, 2019

Unfortunately, I didn't like Trüberbrook as much as I thought at first. The really charming artstyle and the great scenery are combined with a nice story, but technical weaknesses look out at all corners and edges. Whether it's the sluggish camera, the uninteresting opponent with the soporific voice or puzzles without inspiration. I don't want to punish all of the puzzles here by far, because some are really well guessed and have a crazy solution. However, the few negative examples are all the more important.

Away: Journey to the Unexpected describes itself as a Feel-Good-Adventure right from the start and when it reaches the right target group, the four-hour adventure might also be a bit fun and feel good. The cuddly child comic style with a hint of anime, the uncomplicated gameplay - albeit with pitfalls - and the story are basically a round thing. Whether this is sufficient in form and scope as a gaming experience, everyone must decide for themselves. For me personally it was okay as a game snack for in between, but didn't bring me any highlights or the often quoted Feel Good atmosphere, felt shallow and will therefore quickly disappear from my memory.

If you had a lot of fun with Far Cry 5, you will appreciate New Dawn. The usual good gunplay and the traditional open world work for the chaos on the streets of Hope County again this time. The cross-references to part 5 and Easter Eggs to other Ubisoft games are also well placed and encourage you to continue playing. But that was it. Especially the artificial "intelligence" and the flat characters quickly spoiled the fun of the game.

Unscored - Vane
Feb 13, 2019

Vane awakens the hope for an exciting, gloomy gaming experience in the style of Inside or Journey, but ultimately fails in the implementation and also offers hardly any fresh ideas over his short playing time.

Unscored - Tropico 6
Apr 16, 2019

To make it short and sweet: The direct predecessor was much more transparent and better playable than Tropico 6. The small bugs and larger coughing fits of the engine finally add up to a massive disturbance factor. Tropico has always been one of my favorite urban simulations. Not quite so serious, always with a dash of humour and always clear. Here the fourth developer studio tries its hand at the brand and unfortunately adds more negative than positive points to the mix. If you're interested in playing dictator you'd rather grab Tropico 5 and wait for the next offshoot with the homemade rum in your hand.

Disliked - Trials Rising
Mar 27, 2019

Trials was expanded from a wonderfully purist arcade title to a big Game as a Service - including Lootboxes, real money integration and embarrassing ingratiation with the Fortnite target group. So at least I don't enjoy trials anymore, although the playful core belongs to the best of the series. Too bad about the great level design.

Meh - Chorus
Feb 1, 2022

Chorus can be a lot of fun, but too often gets in its own way. When I sweep through huge frigates with precise drifts while simultaneously shooting power relays and turrets, it holds a sense of absolute superiority and skill. Unfortunately, this freedom is too often taken away from me and replaced with boring dialogue. Essential features like moving my ship horizontally and vertically or selling old equipment at the merchant are completely missing. In addition, there are sections of uninteresting story that can't be skipped. So I'm kept in an empty room even longer, although I just want to fly, explore the great environments and go hunting. The numerous, diverse enemies and the fabulous drift system keep the combat fresh and crisp, even towards the end of the 14-hour campaign.

Jun 24, 2021

The dull gameplay, the same old fights, and the absolute overabundance of enemy waves took the fun out of Necromunda: Hired Gun for me relatively early on. The premise looked good, the inspiration of the developers is clear, but the execution leaves obvious flaws. Even though the arenas and levels are beautifully designed and could vary so much despite being permanently underground, it's the gameplay in particular that makes the agile shooter and thus breaks its neck.

Bravely Default II doesn't deliver more than the bare minimum on all levels - gameplay-wise, technically, narratively and musically - and is thus, despite a still excellent job system, unfortunately one thing above all: generic.

Beyond Blue is neither fish nor whale and remains in every respect a trial dive, which as a game as well as an interactive documentary only scratches the surface of the possible. It's not about exploring and getting to know this fascinating habitat by yourself, but, as in underwater tourism, about grazing spot by spot and scanning as many animals as possible on the way. I appreciate the work that goes into Beyond Blue. But the bottom line is that it's just a trial dive with an omnipresent guide.

Meh - Maneater
Jun 16, 2020

The humor really is the most fun for me, because there is not much playfulness offered here. The missions are monotonous, the performance on consoles is insufficient and I still had to struggle with the camera even after nine hours, as there is no option for fixed targeting of prey. But I don't want to leave this ship in too bad a mood. The graphics are quite respectable and there are some points where you can see better ambitions. It's great that there can be such wacky games and I hope for a more polished and interesting second part.

I look forward to see how the community deals with Bloodroots. Speed runs and the most effective mission completion possible promise entertaining actions on the screen. But, too many little things and annoyances have spoiled the game fun for me. Whether it was missing animations, inaccurate camera work or delayed hits - in the end it's the sum that counts. It's a pity, since I had such high hopes for the small indie team in the middle of last year. But nothing is lost yet. Maybe patches and updates can put it in the right light, there are dozens of good approaches.

A powerful Mech construction kit, Daemon X Machina is a dream for all fans of combat robots, but as an action game it is a repetitive occupational therapy. It's a shame that the game design hasn't received as much lifeblood.

Football Drama offers an exciting concept and a sympathetic presentation. Especially after my meeting with the developer during this years Gamescom, I was really excited to see a game that depicts the whole world of football. Unfortunately the constant repetitions of the gameplay as well as the sloppy translation and missing tutorials made it a rather unsatisfying experience. If Open Lab Games improves on the last two points, I might be able to finish a few more seasons with Manager Rocco Gallianio.

Ehhh - Night Call
Jul 23, 2019

Night Call was fun for me and basically has all the necessary ingredients for an exciting experience - but the many bugs, the repetetive gameplay and the feeling that it didn't quite hit it's potential stand in the way of an unconditional recommendation. In short: Night Call runs out of fuel on a long distance.

Meh - Rage 2
May 28, 2019

At Rage 2, absolutely nothing is dared. The generic Open-World always has the same tasks and picks up gameplay mechanics that we've seen a thousand times before. Apart from the really good hit feedback and the action-packed fights, there is simply nothing to get. The pale characters are forgotten after a few days, the story only motivates a few hours and the races are a horror. If you only want to dig up bandit fortresses with cool moves and fat guns, you'll find some entertainment here, but not for the full price.
