9 / 10.0 - Disc Room
Oct 27, 2020

Brutally intense and oddly satisfying, Disc Room is the “one more run” kind of game you need to have in your library in rainy days. The lack of global leaderboards is a bit of a letdown, but don’t let that discourage you. Master it systems and dodge discs or die trying.

Aquanox Deep Descent is a “for fans by fans game”, the core combat mechanics and exploration are satisfying and will surely appease Aquanox fans. Too bad that the rest — especially its story beats — undermined by an annoying protagonist and an underwhelming plot.

Age of Empires III campaign might not be the best in the franchise, some of its mechanics are overly obtuse. With that being said, the Definitive Edition does its best to provide one of the smoothest experiences for both newcomers and veterans alike. It takes time to get used to it, but Age of Empires III is still a rare gem.

5 / 10.0 - Port Royale 4
Oct 5, 2020

For a game about logistics and commerce, Port Royale sure looks amazing. Too bad that’s the only thing Gaming Minds got it right. Its overly simplistic trading mechanics makes it easier to snowball into becoming rich, making the game a tedious grind.

9.5 / 10.0 - Serious Sam 4
Oct 2, 2020

When it comes to Croteam, it’s the small touches that matters, and Serious Sam 4 is full of them. It maintains its classic chaotic style of arena shooting, improves in much needed areas. After eight years of the latest entry, is good to have Sam back.

Although its combat system is rather barebones and sometimes annoying, The Dungeon Of Naheulbeuk more than makes up for it with is goofy style of writing with great characters. A game that will surely make you laugh throughout the entire adventure.

10 / 10.0 - art of rally
Sep 23, 2020

Art of rally delivers the perfect blend of arcade and history about the golden age of rally without hiding the more dangerous aspects of the sport. By far one of the best racing games of 2020.

Considering that Vaporum: Lockdown was firstly meant to be an expansion to the base game, Fatbot Games achieved impressive results on enhancing a familiar structure with better narrative, more build variety and refined enemy encounters. It will be a great addition to anyone’s library that’s very into dungeon crawlers.

A much-needed refresher to its tactical layer along with unique progression systems makes Furious Wild a good expansion for Three Kingdoms veterans. On the other hand, the new faction early game can be tedious and often disconnected from the main plot of the game.

With the exception of a new difficulty and some minor enhancements to its combat, Kingdoms of Amalur feels like a remaster built upon the community previous efforts on modding the original game. The biggest “improvement” you’ll see — at least on PC — is a myriad of new bugs and headaches. Stick to the original if possible.

There was no possible way that Crusader Kings III could live up to eight years of DLC and updates done to Crusader Kings II. But, in its own way, creates a new — more tightly focused entry — and a framework to what can possibly be the next best strategy RPG hybrid for years to come.

9.5 / 10.0 - PGA Tour 2K21
Aug 26, 2020

PGA TOUR 2K21 might not have the most “involving” career mode, but it more than makes up for it with easing up on the difficulty curve, a fantastic golf course editor, a multitude of maps and a greatly improved multiplayer. A must have for golf fans.

7.5 / 10.0 - Mortal Shell
Aug 20, 2020

Mortal Shell gains a lot of points in my book for at least trying something knew in the “souls-like” subgenre, but its limited scope and some odd design decisions about upgrades and leveling makes it hard to recommend to none other than the most hardcore of fans.

If you look through the lens of a “Games as a Service” type of deal, Fall Guys already has a great foundation to be built upon, but at this moment the joy and fun can be snuffed out due to its repetitive nature and lack of more minigames and meaningful progression.

5 / 10.0 - CARRION
Jul 23, 2020

Carrion struggles to depict the idea of “having power” as nothing else than a brainless venture. Something you inherited. Therefore, every action and every killing lose its meaning. Even though you are a monster, your actions are never questioned or given context. In the end, the gore is the only thing that really makes you feel something. Gross, at most.

9.5 / 10.0 - F1 2020
Jul 15, 2020

Codemasters finishes its 10 year journey into making a F1 game being meaningful with its best offering so far whilst still retaining their identity — something that most developers working with big IPs often struggle with. It’s the most balanced both from a newcomer or enthusiast standpoint and its MyTeam Mode is the renewal that the franchise needed.

Minor quibbles aside — such as the lack of an attack move option — Command & Conquer Remastered is not only an amazing remaster by its own merits, but also a great reminder that simplicity in strategy games can sometimes be paramount if we want the genre to grow. Tactical victories and complex mechanics have its space in the genre, but we do need a more direct route for a bigger audience. It’s ironic that a game from 1995 does it better than most newer releases.

9.5 / 10.0 - Desperados III
Jun 24, 2020

Desperados III builds heavily upon Mimimi Games “Shadow Tactics” experience to deliver one of the best “soft reboots” I’ve seen in a long while. It’s unrelentless and both charming varied enough to keep you going. It knows how to treat “failure” not as a bad thing, but only a minor setback. Heavily recommended for stealth fans.

Triumph once again shows how to do post-launch content in the best light possible. Invasions not only rectifies some of the issues from the base game, but also add meaningful events through the entire session. A must have for Age of Wonders and 4X fans in general.

8 / 10.0 - SnowRunner
May 11, 2020

It’s hard not to say that SnowRunner is the sequel to MudRunner. But one can argue that it is also a more gamified and less authorial piece. It feels better to play in the long run, but it lacks the feeling of discovery the previous one had. If anything, the games complement each other. If you do plan on getting it, make sure to grab MudRunner too, even if only for its vibrant mod community.
