The Games Machine's Reviews

Oct 29, 2018

My Hero One's Justice is a game aimed almost exclusively at the fans of the series, which will perhaps be satisfied by the fan-service and the scenic performance of the game. It's a pity that too many problems prevent it from sitting next to other well-known exponents of his own genre.

Huge, technically incomparable and full of things to do: the Western epic of Rockstar Games manages to repeat the success of the first chapter, making one of the most impressive video games of all time.

A series of interesting boss fights clashes with the general treatment of the Chinese indie game, lowering the quality to the point of not doing it justice. Nevertheless the challenge offered brings with it great intuitions.

This is a game of pure wrestling which aims to replicate the most technical and psychological aspects of the discipline by offering a rigorous, but very rewarding gameplay. You need an investment in terms of hours and effort to get satisfaction from Fire Pro Wrestling World, but you'll get a game that can last, literally, decades.

Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales takes this genre to a new level of depth thanks to the combination of good writing and a gameplay skillfully declined in numerous variations.

The courage of Treyarch must always be rewarded, and that is why we feel confident in affirming that, for now, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 can really make a difference in its own genre, especially thanks to the new Blackout mode. Nice job!

I spent a few days hunting for undead, Lords and great knights. I visited Oolacile again from the comfort of my bed, I lost thousands of souls in Anor Londo from the terrace of my house, and I banged my fists on the desk while slipping in a ravine trying to take a shortcut. Although it is a pity that the frame rate isn't perfectly stable, the chance to play whenever and wherever I want has it's own charm.

8.3 / 10.0 - SoulCalibur VI
Oct 16, 2018

SoulCalibur VI offers lots of hours of fun, and not just online. Some interesting additions to the gameplay and the new characters make the gaming experience fresh and varied, even if some animation risks to break the flow of combat. Had it not been for the rather unpleasant decision to block Tira as a Season Pass bonus, Project Soul's latest work would have had very few things to complain about.

6.4 / 10.0 - Warriors Orochi 4
Oct 16, 2018

More than 160 characters, standard arenas, and thousands of enemies to mow away: Warriors Orochi 4 remains faithful to the musou formula, but it's too easy and excessively repetitive.

A hurricane of style, good ideas and convincing narration clashes with a difficulty so low that sometimes is irritating: beyond an all-but-old problem of about a decade, The World Ends with You remains an incredibly fresh and original game that deserves to be played by both veterans and those who missed it on the DS in 2007. There is no better opportunity to brush up on the adventure of Neku, just hold on to the touch screen and leave the Joy-Con in a corner. The party, this time, is the exclusive prerogative of the handheld mode.

Despite the popularity of the manga, Black Clover: Quartet Knights fails to draw attentions due to the lack of compelling game modes and the presence of dull game mechanics, a repetitive story mode and the almost total absence of customization. There are some good ideas here in the form of an original story and a nice graphic design, but the final product is not able to fully bring out all its potential.

8.3 / 10.0 - Super Mario Party
Oct 3, 2018

Super Mario Party is a good step forward for the series after the last, pale chapters. With this first episode for Switch, Nintendo wanted to look back to the past, especially in the first few games of the series, to bring out the simplicity and immediacy of the original gameplay. The operation has succeeded and is exalted by the peculiar characteristics of the console.

First-party developer Japan Studio shows competence in the use of virtual reality, and even more in the way it takes the DualShock controller at the front of the action. The protagonists, Sony's Bots, are as cute as they come, and the general look and feel make Astro Bot a joy to play. On the otherside, the game does barely offer any kind of challenge at all and more variety in gameplay would have been appreciated by experienced players. However, it is good to see type of productions for virtual reality, which show great potential.

7.8 / 10.0 - Mega Man 11

Leaving aside a disappointing lack of ideas, Mega Man 11 stands as a decent modern chapter of one of the most important capcom sagas of all time.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey is the turning point for one of the most famous series produced by Ubisoft. Despite a somewhat shallow storyline and a constant sense of déjà-vu due to the evident reuse of assets from its direct predecessor, the metamorphosis in a full-fledged action RPG is successful, assisted by a system of choices and consequences that works well in guaranteeing tangible repercussions in the world. Now we can't wait to find out how the series will evolve.

Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise recreates the feeling of fighting and the charisma of the characters of Hokuto no Ken quite faithfully. The authors have conceded some creative freedom compared to the original material and this could annoy the fans, but the game developed by the authors of Yakuza manages to entertain the players despite the many flaws.

8.1 / 10.0 - Transference
Sep 28, 2018

Transference is an extremely interesting experiment and it succeeds in mixing the movie and videogame components. The use of audio will keep you on the edge, and a few jump scare work very well. However, the constant feeling of tension ends up holding the narrative back, as a greater variety of emotions would have benefitted the overall experience. Transference is remarkably short for a videogame, which might disappoint many players.

Great Dontnod: you gave me three hours of emotions, moral choices and boundless natural landscapes. You have characterized two protagonists in an excellent way, making them loved within half an hour.
