An engaging, action-packed and even relaxing exploration of existentialism. Nier: Automata merges action and RPG as seamlessly as it switches cameras angles from player-controlled to fixed scroller. Have your pick of reading a visual novel and threading the plot together, or hack and slash through waves of enemies in a gorgeous dance - I did them all, and I loved every minute. Worth full price.
With no multiplayer to support the game’s replayability, Horizon Zero Dawn focuses on providing an exceptional single player campaign, robust and flexible combat mechanics, creative and unique enemy designs (both aesthetically and in combat), a vast and fully realized world to explore, engaging side mission stories, and most importantly a compelling and likable main character. Horizon Zero Dawn does not drastically invent anything new in the open world genre, but rather makes it enjoyable to explore in. And isn’t that all we want as gamers: to enjoy the game we are playing?
For Honor is fun game to play, and a gorgeous game to look at. If you have an interest in medieval sword fights or fighting games, you definitely should pick this one up. For everyone else, I'd still say you can't go wrong with it, though perhaps wait until the first DLC is out which will add in some more play modes.
I've left out the specific criteria as they would match episode 2. Telltale continues right where they left off and run with it. Batman is, through Episode 3, a consistently excellent game. This installment, being right in the middle, delivers on the tried and true practice of delivering conflict after character and story development. And wow is there conflict! Bruce is one unlucky bastard
All of the elements that made Episode 1 great, are just a touch better in Episode 2. Characters and voice acting settle in well. Plot points and character interactions are top notch here. Replayability gets a boost due to more significant choices that could be compelling to try a "do over" on. To better compare, Episode 1 isn't quite a tutorial, but presents as a solid introduction. Episode 2 uses that foundation and takes flight (on awexome batwings).
In case it hasn't become clear, Brut@l is a simple experience. That simplicity isn't necessarily bad, as it allows the game to be very focused on the intended experience. I enjoy the game, and for others your enjoyment of the game will hinge entirely on how much you enjoy the core gameplay: kill/break stuff to get materials for more and better stuff, try to conserve resources, repeat until boss or death. The simplistic combat leaves a little to be desired, but it's an entertaining and mostly gratifying way to unplug and spend a few hours causing a little mayhem.
Nioh is brilliant. It takes some of the best elements of old school gaming such as level design, customization and layout and mixes it perfectly with modern action combat and online components. In the middle is a timeless loot and upgrade system that adds hours of tinkering. Team Ninja has packed a ton of content into this game, almost to a fault. The amount of things you can do and engage in is almost overwhelming, and that is not including the subtle stats, stances, and the upcoming DLC and PvP. 2017 is just getting underway, but Nioh has already made its case for Game of the Year.
Overall, imprint-x is a puzzle game you play while in a light trance. The puzzles range from simplistic to cruelly complex, the game maintains a quick pace once it gets past the hour-long introduction stage, and the gameplay constantly morphs as new mechanics are added at a rapid pace. If it weren't for that one issue with movement and input lag, I'd almost consider it worth the five dollar asking price.
Batman is a superb game in the point and click style. The overall narrative and Bruce Wayne driven interactions in Episode 1 really pull you behind the cowl and are a unique take on a fan favorite. The art style sells the whole thing and the majority of vocal performances add a strong sense of life to what's happening. The heavy use of QTE does feature in the replayability score as it severely limits the possibilities in combat situations. Batman or Telltale fans should get their money's worth at the current price for the full series. I rated this review as I did, due to episode 1 currently being free. You can't beat that. And it should give players a great idea on whether the rest of the game is worth it for them.
Surprisingly well-designed with a balance between inventory management, level-wide planning and on-the-fly judgement calls. You don't buy this for the story. For an indie title over USD 10.00 there's enough here to keep you playing longer than you think. Multiplayer was not tested at time of review.
A fun romp through a world where Dwarves take the lead role. The great writing and dialogue make up for lacking itemization and RPG elements. Combat management can be tricky but the few skills in the game have some fun application. Anyone looking for a break from some of the more grueling mechanics of hardcore RPGs will find an engaging story-focused journey through an idyllic fantasy landscape.
If you like a challenging RPG with a "classic" feel, and choices that actually change the quests and outcomes of the game then Tyranny is for you. For those worried that they will be forced to play as an evil character, I can confidently say there are more than enough "good" choices to satisfy you and not ruin your experience. Tyranny boldly goes where no game has successfully gone before and pulls it off in menacing fashion. At 44.99 USD, this game is a no brainer!
A fun and even sometimes addictive game at the start, but gets repetitive later on. The visual style is adorable, almost to the point of annoyance but the story balances light moments with some emotional touches. This game is something that long time fans of the franchise will want to give a second look.
Great start, complex strategies, new Leaders to discover, detailed diplomacy, beautiful graphics and a replayability factor that could never be fit into a score. Quality gaming has never felt better!
A piece of content that falls short of past expansions in length but makes up for it by adding a well designed assortment of weapons and spells as well as some memorable boss fights. The addition of the arena adds longevity for PvP fans or those just looking for a rumble with friends.
With the proper expectations and the potential for some engaging future updates No Man's Sky is a fun experience to dig into for a few weeks or can be a secondary game to play while focusing on other games. Structurally, it lacks the foundation to be a core game experience, as it is lacking in enough diverse gameplay objectives.
Nuka-World is a delightful walk in the park and gives players a cheery sendoff to the blockbuster RPG with a brilliantly realized setting. Not as philosophically deep as Far Harbor but presents a fun story and a chance to see things from the perspective of a raider. Scarcity of new gear and ho-hum companion is offset by some fun tweaks to the settlement system.
A chaotic and fun swing and slash experience, that has something for new and old fans of the series. High speed action, that wears after a bit, but enough mode variety to keep completionists going. The upgrade system lacks depth which detracts from the mission reward structure.
Vault-Tec workshop is a fun walk in the underground park, especially for settlement enthusiasts who want more options for their designs. While not the deepest in content, it presents a good value for its low price.
An MMO with fast, satisfying combat and a great example of a free-to-play model. Some minor performance problems pop up, but overall it's a very fun gaming experience solo or with others.
