8 / 10 - Nex Machina
Jun 18, 2017

Nex Machina is a hard game to put down once you’ve gotten into the swing of it. Once you’ve finished one run and you’re deposited back at the menu, some combination of the awesome soundtrack and the sheer adrenaline pumping through your body will have you practically screaming for more.

8 / 10 - Nidhogg 2
Aug 14, 2017

In motion when two players are facing off against each other it’s brilliant. Playing the game is nonstop fun. Heck, even watching two players have at it is a cracking time.

It’s a mess. A glorious mess, and one well worth taking a chance on but the faults are too much to ignore. What could have been a masterpiece is simply a great game worth playing if it’s your kind of thing. But there are enough elements here to promise a sequel. If that’s enough for you to invest your time, by all means do so.

I love the setting, the characters and the premise of playing a happy-go-lucky superhero with gravity shifting abilities. Kat is the cutest, most likeable protagonist you’re likely to come across all year. When the game is in full flow, either during its awesome comic book style cutscenes or during its large scale combat, it’s superb. Unfortunately the game is far too comfortable simply forcing players through lazy content. A sizeable chunk of the gameplay isn’t actually all that fun to play.

Tales of Berseria is the best Tales game in a while. Its story, while a bit too slow paced in its first 20-30 hours, is a solid tale of revenge. It breaks away from the more traditional good versus evil yarn that Tales usually aims for, instead telling a darker tale with more Human characters at its core.

There’s some major inconsistencies in terms of quality in certain companions, certain portions of the writing, and definitely in the overall pace of the game. This is completely outweighed by the ludicrously interesting world in which it’s set. If you can forgive the above flaws, and are prepared to read a novel’s worth of text in its 30-35 hour run-time, you’ll end up like me – playing until 3am, doing just one more quest and revelling in navigating the ridiculously wonderful Ninth World.

For the time that I spent it with, All The Delicate Duplicates really sucked me into its world, as I scrambled to understand the meaning behind the strange images I was seeing and the almost ominous mood I was experiencing. It’s a unique experience and one I can definitely recommend to anyone looking for something a bit more out of the ordinary.

7 / 10 - Snake Pass
Apr 2, 2017

Snake Pass is a game that evokes both satisfaction and intense frustration, often simultaneously. Guiding Noddle through the fifteen levels on offer is a great experience, though it is marred by some issues with controls, checkpoints and a wayward, sometimes difficult to control camera. There’s also nothing quite like it.

7 / 10 - Farpoint
May 22, 2017

As a first-person shooter, Farpoint is serviceable. As a true first-person virtual reality shooter it’s a very encouraging starting point. As a proof of concept for Sony’s new aim controller peripheral it’s a revelation.

A Rose in the Twilight continues Nippon Ichi’s excellent run of games that seem to exist specifically to torture young girls.

7 / 10 - Tokyo 42

Tokyo 42 is a solid game held back from greatness by a couple of quirks in its design.

Gunmetal Arcadia is a fun platformer. While it’s definitely a throwback to the NES-era in its visuals, soundtrack and gameplay style, it also adds a lot of its own ideas and mechanics to a classic formula.

This is a peaceful game about exploration, discovering secrets, helping people and transforming the land at your own pace, free from the threat of death or world ending implications. It’s quite refreshing to explore the land at your own pace without worrying that something is going to try and murder your face off when you round every corner.
