7 / 10 - Nightmare Boy
Feb 19, 2018

Overall, Nightmare Boy is a lot of fun, despite it’s many flaws. It’s not the best Metroidvania on Switch in terms of gameplay by a long shot, but the sense of style it embodies is enough to carry it, and the overall experience does improve the more you play.

Fans of difficult RPGs will enjoy Legrand, but with so many tactics required for normal battles, rigging encounters in your favour or stockpiling items, any player might feel like the game was against them. Against other “difficult” games like Dark Souls that allowed skill to prevail over stats, Legrand feels too narrowed into numbers or the single path allowed for victory.

Overall, Kingdom Come: Deliverance gets a 9/10, the gameplay is amazing, replacing my need to play Skyrim for quite some time to come. Swordplay is smooth and unforgiving to those who rush in, setting your character up is immersive and engaging, skill progression is rewarding and clearly displayed with diplomacy being rather in-depth.

7 / 10 - The Sims 4
Feb 13, 2018

Anti-DLC gamers should also beware. Although it is not new for the Sims to feature numerous expansion backs, the additional paid content for this game is frequent and abundant. Some packages are visibly more fruitful than others, so it is easy to pick and choose, and gamers certainly do not need to buy the content to continue to play and enjoy the base game.

Overall, Dynasty Warriors 9 gets an 8/10, the main gameplay is fun with plenty of new additions to the mechanics alongside the ever-increasing units the games are able to display at once. The voice acting is way below the bar, the story is rehashed like normal, the separate stories feel too similar to one another with some being shortened and the map feels underutilised most of the time. You will also find yourself repeating the same task over and over with their quest system telling you to kill nearby troops that spawn out of thin air or to bring a hide to a villager.

I find it hard to say much more about Chaos on Deponia. It definitely worth playing. It ticks all the boxes for those looking for something which harkens back to the old LucasArts adventures. It ticks all the boxes for those looking for a fun new adventure game. And it ticks all the boxes for those looking to sink into point-and-click style adventures. It is an all-round good experience, one you should expect for Daedelic.

The Mind’s Eclipse is an incredibly deep and unsettling tale that is so quickly brought to life in such an incredible and vivid way, without a doubt holding a candle to the franchises that have inspired it. Though on the surface the game’s art work appears primitive, the monochrome comic panels play a huge role in delivering the perfect amount of bleak realism into the narrative, leading me to believe that everything that has transpired could happen in the not so distant future. This may lack the budget of a high end studio but the product does not suffer from that, this is an essential story that you simply have to hear, and I am incredibly grateful for having it shared with me.

6 / 10 - Fjong
Feb 8, 2018

Fjong is a short, enjoyable distraction I will almost certainly never touch again, but it’s recommended to fans of similar games who don’t mind the price tag. Or genetic scientists still trying to work out what a Fjong actually is.

Overall Sowing the Wind continues an interesting story as well as it can: By smoothing down rough edges and not bringing new issues to the table. Much like volume one you’re in for the long haul. But if you have made it this far that won’t put you off.

If you like the previous 4 games I will have to trust your recommendation as I do not know how this game relates to the others. But this is not a game I will be recommending to anyone. This is not a series worth new investment. It is at best incomplete and at worst an embarrassment of a game in its current state. Tohou Kobuto V: Burst Battle is an unnecessary game, a game which is not worth getting.

You may call me biased, and yes, on some level that I am. I am both a fan boy and an academic in the area which this game focusses on. However, here is the crucial, unbiased fact that I think seals the deal for what makes this DLC in particular special. All of the additional content for Cities Skylines has been good, but if a new player was choosing just one package to go in on as their first addition to the game, this is the one I would point to. The level of additional content is the greatest.

Overall, Dragon Ball FighterZ gets an 8/10, the main gameplay is superb, reaching near the top of my favourite list of fighting games. A good majority of the game feels balanced, with the aesthetic looking gorgeous, even with some minor annoyances with light and shadows being used in the cutscenes

For me, the returning Pokémon – like old friends at this point – and tweaks to the plot and Totem fights justified the return, but not without reservations, and not without being prepared to be taught how to catch a Pokémon for the millionth time.

Perhaps not your average indie, but not quite on the same level as Little Nightmares or ABZU.

If you haven't given Spintires a chance then this is the time to do so. It's nice to see them shovel more content in rather than just plugging the game on to consoles. You'll have a good experience regardless of which format you grab it. Sim fans and casual players should find several good hours of fun in this.

10 / 10 - Okami HD
Jan 23, 2018

I’m gonna be honest with you. I did go a little ham on this review and I don’t really remember if I have to mention anything else, but I am pretty sure I covered the main aspects that I had to so take my word for it and go buy the game … it’s a great game, I have nothing to complain about. It’s engaging, immersive, dynamic, unique – not only in mechanics but the sumi-e art style as well, has over 120 pieces of music, that you never get bored of, a lot of character development and world-building … I am obviously gonna give Okami a 10/10, no regrets, go buy the game.

I’m disappointed in the finale and maybe in the game as a whole. I remember enjoying episode 2 but that was about it. I also remember enjoying the first game WAY more than I did Before the Storm. As a verdict to this episode only I will stick to 6/10.

8 / 10 - Nioh
Jan 19, 2018

I enjoyed my time with Nioh, especially after playing it co-op with a friend of mine who is a fan of dark souls so we had a good time messing around with the game. The combat is fun, the weapons all have a unique feel backed up by a deep skill system and souls-like stat building to replicate that comfort zone of dark souls but with more dex weapons over strength.

Overall, LMSH2 is a Marvel fan’s dream. With a huge amount of characters and content from the majority of Marvel’s past and present catalogue there is heaps of fan service in store. Whilst the omission of certain characters and the lacklustre combat disappoints, the puzzling and sheer quantity of quality content makes up for these hiccups.

So first off, and this is actually without a doubt, I will give episode 5 as a separate entity a 10/10. Just like Batman: the Enemy Within's strong start, this series had an even stronger ending and I am so pleased with it. Indeed, I can say that it all led up to this moment and it was all I was hoping for.
