NieR: Automata Become as Gods Edition is the definitive version, especially for those with an Xbox One X. The strong combat system makes for a fun experience, one that is enhanced by multiple endings of varying amounts of importance. Combine this with a complete adventure, one that includes the expansion, and it makes for a solid offering. Sure, it might not be on par with previous titles, such as Bayonetta or Vanquish, nut NieR: Automata still proves to be one of the best action games of this generation.
Despite some small annoyances, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is a blast on the Switch. The simply, yet fun, combat is a winner whether you’re on the go or playing at home. Add in a thrilling story and it makes for one of the better offerings for the platform. Sure, it could perform a little better and do a better job with direction, but these things are quickly forgotten when you’re defending your settlement or finding new residents.
Ubisoft had a chance to deliver an incredible open world racing title and it does somewhat fall short of it had the potential to be.
Despite the largely negative review, Next Up Hero can be fun, it's just a very monotonous gameplay loop. All roads involve killing the same enemies, at the same locations, under the same handful of modifiers, to get resources that allow you to do the same thing, just at higher numbers. In a lot of ways, it seems like a fantastic title for the Switch. The idea of finishing a couple levels on the go or slowly chipping away at things works better on a portable console than a home one. But, in the end, Next Up Hero has some interesting ideas, such as using fallen players, including yourself, to help everyone finish the level (everyone who tries is also rewarded if it is successfully completed), it just ends up being an experience that is very simple. If this sounds appealing, odds are you'll likely have a lot of fun, where as if you want something closer to Issac or Gungeon, look elsewhere.
Shining Resonance Refrain is an interesting, trope heavy, story with combat that could be fun, if there was less padding. None of these things stop it from being a good game, it just prevents it from being truly great. Despite the negativity towards a lot of it, the characters were fun enough where I found myself excited on seeing where things would go, it just requires you to be interested in a lot of clichés found in things like anime. Outside of that, combat is fun, at least when you’re not out classed, with the Switch having some slight performance issues, making Shining Resonance Refrain an okay experience. One fantasy and anime fans will probably like, with it having very little for anyone else. Well, outside of nice music and pretty visuals.
While I wouldn’t consider Red Faction: Guerrilla a classic like Killzone 2 or Halo 2, it’s still a lot of fun to play. Sure, it hasn’t aged as well as other games but it’s still a fun experience, if only for the fact it allows you to think outside of the box. Maybe you smash this skull or blow up that wall, giving players a fair amount to consider while trying to free the people of Mars. Combine it with a story that instantly hooks you, though it fails to maintain the momentum, decent gunplay and plenty to see and do, it makes a solid choice for fans and newcomers alike.
Defiance 2050 is not a very good game thanks to all of the technical hiccups I encountered during its launch week. Even if the launch issues are all fixed, the game itself leaves a lot to be desired. The outdated visuals and repetitive gameplay are a turn off and you’re better off playing Warframe or any other free to play MMO instead. That said, you can still find some type of enjoyment in this game if you are a fan of shooting games, but other games offer better variety than this.
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is much closer to a port than an enhanced version like we’ve seen with other Wii U titles. However, those who haven’t played it are better off getting one of the new releases, since those also offer portability. Since the levels are short, it is the perfect title to pick up and play. Despite the flaws, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker still might be one of the best puzzle-action game for Switch.
Perhaps it is being overly critical of Earthfall with limited lore, and a sense of ease of completion, when the same issues can be found in Left 4 Dead, a title it is easy to sing the praises of. The comparisons are not subtle, yet Earthfall feels more like a missed opportunity to drag the genre forward in similar ways as Vermintide has managed to.
The majority of Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1+2 is excellent as the earlier games in the series are still fun to play even 20 years later. Sure you need to be an expert at 2D shooters to get the most fun out of them, but the Rookie Hunter mode does make things slightly easier for noobs. Just try and ignore Mega Man X6 and Mega Man X7 because they’re by far the weakest additions to the Mega Man X franchise.
No Man’s Sky Next is a huge improvement over the original game because there are new features and better visuals for you to look at. It’s worth playing the game if you still own a copy of it and want to download the free update. However, the game can still be boring at times and I don’t think it does enough to entice new players to give it a try.

Between slow and clunky controls to a generic story that is basically making fun of similar generic stories, you're left with an underwhelming game that just isn't that fun to play. So, unless you really want to play a beat 'em up on the Switch, play as countless characters or just enjoy the usual anime game tropes, this isn't for you.
If you’re looking for an easy version of Enter the Gungeon or a game where you have to plan every encounter, you’ll love Dead Cells. However, if you want an experience where you absolutely have to make the most of what RNG gives you, it might not be for you.
Instead of changing the recipe of success that the developers found with the original, Overcooked 2 is more of an extension of awesomeness.
We Happy Few could've been a great or at least interesting experience but fails to meet any of the promise.
Overall, State of Mind is a good game if you are into a heavily narrative based title.
Despite being challenging, especially if you want the optional true end, Guacamelee! 2 retains everything that made the original great.
Shenmue I & II are two great games that allow players to experience just before the sequel releases late next year. There might not be much for returning fans, besides nostalgia or as a refresher, but they're good enough for that to be more than enough. While I doubt many have played the original Dreamcast releases, the sequel likely piqued the interest of many. Sure, the game is two decades old and it has aged, but if you can get past the shortcomings, you are in for great storytelling and an enjoyable brawling experience. For a remastered release, it's the best one and certainly good enough to warrant a purchase.
Yakuza Kiwami 2 might not be perfect but it's a fantastic example of why some things should be remastered. Not only does it perform better than it's PlayStation 2 counterpart, it looks good enough to be within this generation's standards.
