Ladders by POWGI certainly isn't bad for a few minutes at a time, especially if you have a second player to bounce word suggestions off of. Still, I didn't find it addictive enough to carry a standalone release.
Space Commander: War and Trade can be enjoyable for genre enthusiasts and people who really like some commerce mixed into their space-sim adventures. For the more action-oriented player, however, this one can become a bit of a grind. Good effort, but not what I would call a must-have game.
The Nintendo Switch eShop is rife with countless "pick up and play" games, and would you know it, most of them aren't very good. Plenty more are cheap knockoffs of better games. Mom Hid My Game 2 is chock full of something few games have anymore: surprises. If you're looking for a new and unique puzzle experience, My Mom Hid My Game 2 is a fun little time sink.
Subnautica: Below Zero expands on an already very successful and proven formula, delivering an enjoyable and satisfying experience. It may suffer from a few technical hiccups on the Switch, but nothing too bad to ruin the experience.
Emily Archer and the Curse of Tutankhamun could've been a solid game for genre fans, even with its age. But with so many bugs, there's no way I can recommend this Switch version in its current state. It's a weak port of a game best left on the Nintendo DS.
Heal: Console Edition is an immersive puzzle game that's short and bittersweet. It will surely make you think and put you through an emotional roller coaster.
Admittedly, the Game Boy emulation will probably turn off many potential players. That said, there's fun to be had under the dated surface. I don't think Save me Mr Tako: Definitive Edition is a great adventure, but the refinements have cemented it as a good one.
Tinker Racers is a fun racing game that lacks in the components of the main campaign but shines in the various other modes that this title has to offer. The level design is also fun and brings back the childlike excitement of playing with toy cars around the house.
New Pokémon Snap is a delightful revision of an N64 icon. The new region is beautiful and invites you to engage with Pokémon you know and love in different ways, with a unique type of challenge.
If crafting is your thing, you probably won't be disappointed with Atelier Mysterious Trilogy Deluxe Pack. In the end, I still enjoy this series as a JRPG fan, even though there are grind issues.
Savage Halloween is a tough, yet fun platformer. The action is fast and furious, the graphics are neat, and the characters, weapons, and enemies provide plenty of variety to keep you interested.
Knight Squad 2 improves upon the original with new features, a nice layer of visual polish, and a much-needed online multiplayer component. The arcade party action is otherwise the same as in the original, however, which could disappoint those who have to buy the game again to get these enhancements.
The Longing requires patience but is a surprisingly captivating and emotional game that it's worth taking the time to connect to.
Overall, R.B.I. Baseball 21 has a number of new features that bring it more in line with similar baseball games on the market. I enjoy my time with each new iteration but I do hope that the developers work on more fluid animations and overall 'feel' of the gameplay. It can be frustrating at times seeing players move strangely across the field or feeling like the ball is 'magnetizing' into a defender's glove in an odd manner. Even though there's the occasional stutter when loading between innings or frame rate issues in the home run replays, it has still come a long way since R.B.I. Baseball 17. I've got to give the developers credit for sticking with the series and always aiming to improve each year. If you're looking for an MLB-licensed, arcade-focused baseball game, you won't really find a better option on the Switch.
Potion Party is a fun game to play with others but isn't anywhere near as fun by yourself. It is never too challenging but does just enough to make you think about every obstacle.
Astro Aqua Kity is a super-fun shooter, with great audio and visuals along with fluid gameplay and spot-on action. There are a lot of options to keep even the fussiest player happy during this tough but enjoyable undersea adventure. Check it out!
Battle for Neighborville: Complete Edition is a fun, colorful, silly game with a good amount of content to keep the player busy. While the game is older, this updated version is the obvious choice for fans of the series and newcomers alike.
As a grid-based, first-person, action/adventure RPG, Vaporum: Lockdown offers plenty of gameplay elements to keep you busy. The dungeon-crawling game play is straightforward and not overly complicated, despite a good number of puzzles sprinkled in. In short, this is a solid prequel to the original Vaporum. Have fun exploring.
One Escape is a unique puzzle platformer that's fun for the first few levels before it becomes repetitive.
Little Mouse's Encyclopedia is the type of title I would've loved exploring as a kid in school. As a grown man, I still appreciate the concept and how it was brought to screen in an aesthetically pleasing way. It succeeds with its aim in charming fashion. While gameplay and narration are missed, this is a very good release for what it is. If you're a family, this would definitely be one to grab on sale if you're looking to relax and learn at the same time.
