6 / 10.0 - Robbotto
Sep 11, 2018

Robbotto is fun… when played with a friend. Solo is less enjoyable in the long-run, as the substandard hit detection comes to the forefront more. With things such as uneven difficulty, missed achievements, the odd glitch here or there, and more, Robbotto is just okay. At $9.99, you really best make sure you have someone play with.

SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy is a mixed bag – some fun twists make this a great fighting game for quick bouts, particularly for novice fighters. Unfortunately, the lack of depth makes it a short-lived experience. And the less said about the girls' appearances, the better.

Were this release packed tighter with content it would be an easier recommendation. But, so long as game length and gameplay are not primary concerns, this story is worth considering for those eager for narrative-driven games, and who especially enjoy an interesting cast of characters,

Victor Vran Overkill Edition is a delightfully dark romp through dark and distorted Victorian areas, backed by a witty protagonist. While there is a lot of fun to be had, fighting the same enemies can get old in extended sessions, and menus can be hard to navigate.

9 / 10.0 - Next Up Hero
Sep 6, 2018

Next Up Hero is a great game. The play possibilities are endless, the creativity is open to the players, and the gameplay itself is fun. This is a game I'd definitely go back to and play with friends.

Shio is a decently challenging platformer with beautiful backgrounds and a moving story that you can unravel, which gives it a unique level of depth.

5.5 / 10.0 - SURVIVE! MR.CUBE
Sep 5, 2018

There are some clear pros and cons to Survive! Mr. Cube. It has potential, and the good (just) outweighs the bad. I had to force myself to play at first, though I enjoyed it more as I progressed further. It's limited in some respects, and would be easier to recommend if it came with a lower price tag.

7 / 10.0 - Freedom Planet
Sep 3, 2018

When you're not hitting its walls, Freedom Planet is an exciting game that feels natural in both docked and portable mode. The different characters give it some flair, and the nostalgia certainly helps, too. And honestly, although SEGA has kind of found their way again with its iconic franchise, Freedom Planet often feels more like a Sonic game than many actual Sonic games did. One minute you'll wish Sonic games played more like this, and the next you'll be wishing Freedom Planet played more like Sonic. If you can handle that dichotomy, Freedom Planet is worth the run.

2064: Read Only Memories INTEGRAL is a deeply engaging story that will entertain you for hours, as long as you're happy to spend some time reading. There's a mystery to unravel, involving interesting characters and multiple endings, wrapped in a neo-lit future. Check it out.

8 / 10.0 - Bad North
Sep 3, 2018

On the surface, Bad North is a simple puzzle game, that gets increasingly challenging and emotional with each island you defend, resuting in an addictive strategy roguelite.

9 / 10.0 - Blade Strangers
Aug 31, 2018

If Super Smash Bros. and Marvel Vs. Capcom made sweet love, Blade Strangers would be their beautiful baby. Fighting game veterans might find the gameplay a little too user-friendly and ultimately shallow. Still, it's hard not to get addicted to the elegant combo system, and playing as all your favorite indie legends.

6 / 10.0 - THE VIDEOKID
Aug 30, 2018

The VideoKid is a solid game based on the 1980's. While it might be a short-lived experience played solo after a few hours, it could be the centre of a more enjoyable experience by passing the controller amongst friends, although the lack of a leaderboard to taunt them on is a huge mind-boggling miss.

7 / 10.0 - Heroki
Aug 30, 2018

Overall, Heroki is a very polished, solid game. For only $9.99, there's a decent amount of content and beautiful visuals. The game's art style reminded me a lot of the Lost Winds games from the Nintendo WiiWare days. Heroki has a lot of things going for it, but the lack of diverse levels really drag down the experience.

5.5 / 10.0 - Slam Land
Aug 30, 2018

There's not a whole lot to Slam Land. The game is only $7.99 but I don't think you'll get much value from the game even at that price. The gameplay loop just isn't satisfying enough. It's a simple premise and results in an overly simple game.

Tiny Hands Adventure simply has too many execution issues to recommend, especially at its $16.99 regular price. While collectables, which unlock hard level variants, can extend your play time, the level of quality doesn't instill the desire to revisit already completed areas. Hopefully, Blue Sunset Games has something more polished planned for their next Switch release.

7 / 10.0 - Element
Aug 28, 2018

Element gets right to the point, but its also kind of repetitive. Still, overall it's an appealing game. The mechanics are easy to get the hang of and I love the retro polygon look. But if you're hesitant about this one, I'd say wait for it's inevitable eShop discount in the future.

The concept of Little Dragon's Cafe is genius, but its execution is a little sloppy. Many of the game's tasks feel like actual chores instead of the streamlined management of Yasuhiro Wada's past titles. Despite its clear flaws, the food, characters, and world are too gorgeous to ignore.

In the end Pixel Action Heroes has some fairly solid gameplay. With Online matches it certainly is worth the $4.99 price tag. It has a bit of everything for everyone, if creativity is your thing you can create maps to battle on. If classic deathmatches are your thing it has those too. If you're looking for a crazy soccer alternative there is that too.

5 / 10.0 - Unexplored
Aug 24, 2018

Unexplored: Unlocked Edition is a pretty fun game. It's a unique twist on a dungeon exploration game. However, there's a lot to learn and the controls aren't always easy making the gameplay frustrating at times.
