Tango: The Adventure Game is an average experience. Even if you're interested in the history of tango, you won't get much substance out of this game. It's a shame it turned out to be a letdown. There are some good ideas here, especially the art style and character designs. However, this game fails to be a competent comedy and does not offer enough challenge for an enjoyable playthrough.
Reverie doesn’t break too far from the mold of the games it’s based off of. It is, however, an homage to well-loved classic games that makes some interesting deviations and has its own bit of charm. It doesn’t do anything revolutionary, but I had a blast playing through it just as it seems the developers had a blast making it. I’m excited to see what the future holds for this small team out of New Zealand.
Despite some underwhelming puzzles and unused potential in its mechanics, GRIS is a charming platformer. It has some of the best art seen in indie games, and its soundtrack is brilliant. GRIS succeeds at creating a mesmerizing, enchanting experience that is sure to pull on your heartstrings. The length of the game is incredibly short and shouldn’t take more than a few hours to complete, but the other great elements of the game more than make up for this. It is a must play for fans of atmospheric titles such as Fe, Aer, Abzû, and Journey. On those quiet, rainy days when you just want to relax, GRIS is a perfect accompaniment.
Nonetheless, “Rules” can be called a mostly successful entry in the Life is Strange catalog. The plot uses the newly introduced characters very well, each of them fulfilling an important role in Sean and Daniel’s adventure. No moment feels wasted, with every action leading to major changes in the story. Above all, after I finished the episode, I knew I immediately wanted more from Dontnod. It’s just a shame that it could take another four months.
Complaints aside, I’d wholeheartedly recommend Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight to fans of the original game. The character interactions and song selections took me back, and I remembered why I loved this game so dearly. It took me around eight hours to unlock most of the social links, and while that doesn’t sound like a lot, the experience itself is well worth the money. For those who haven’t played Persona 3 however, it’s hard to justify the price and the length.
There was a lot of potential in Kingmaker, but also a lot of wasted potential. The developers might still be able to salvage this potential if they listen to criticism and are willing to overhaul the game in every possible way.
Although it’s not without its faults, Rainswept was a powerful story to me.
Despite the game’s flaws, I had a great time with Pokémon Let’s Go. The atmosphere was charming and inviting, and the details created a fun visual experience. The new capture method was engaging, and made no two encounters the same. This game is the perfect way to ease Pokémon GO players into the console Pokémon games, and offers challenges to old and new players alike.
It’s quirky and beautiful, but isn’t revolutionary by any means. The story is predictable, but the voice acting, art, and dialogue more than make up for that. If they made any sort of spin off short film to this game, I think it would be a great idea and I’d support it 100 percent.
Fans of hardcore bullet hell games, or dexterous one-handed typers, this is a match made in heaven for you.
It’s not the hardest tower defense game ever, but X-Morph will definitely challenge you in ways you never imagined. What little shortcomings it may have is made up for in concept, execution, and sheer style. Now admit it, you know you’ve always wanted to play as the bad guy and wreak havoc…I know I have!
Eden Tomorrow feels like a new developer's first outing. The gameplay is basic, repetitive, and just plain boring. The narrative would be solid, were it not shoved in your face by your flying robot companion. Aside from the music, I found myself almost completely uninvested in the game past the first hour or so. Even the occasional towering visual set piece wasn't enough to elevate the experience. And with so many deeper, more involved experiences on the PSVR platform, Eden Tomorrow feels like a step back.
Even with some complaints, Will is still worth checking out. If you love story-driven games or creative puzzle experiences it will be right up your alley. It tells many powerful and thoughtful stories that can haunt you or just leave you thinking.
Enjoy a relaxing puzzle game that innovates game mechanics in an easy and accessible way that doesn't lose the challenge that makes puzzle games entertaining.
Vambrace: Cold Soul creates a compelling fantasy world for fans of the genre. However, progression can be slow due to the heavy reliance on RNG, which can be frustrating for some.
World End Syndrome is a beautifully drawn visual novel that I recommend to anyone who is a fan of the genre. It features a great cast and an interesting plot surrounding the mystery of Mihate Town.
Project Nimbus is underwhelming to say the least, especially given that this is supposedly the "Complete Edition." The fun inherent in the basic mechanics and the smoothness of the controls do little to distract from several serious flaws.
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons rises above its simple puzzles with a quiet but deeply engaging world, story and characters. Minus a few potential bugs, the Switch port delivers a generally beautiful experience of the game that looks good and runs well. The game is a short but sweet trip that culminates in a truly memorable ending.
Great gameplay and a cool world make Warlocks II an enjoyable experience. It's a fairly standard experience in many ways, but a few nice ideas and twists really liven it up. It's a good time, even if it isn't that funny.
Warhammer: Chaosbane is a decent ARPG that doesn't do anything new or exciting. Still, it might appeal to Warhammer fans and newcomers to the ARPG genre.
