This is a cute and fun puzzle game with a fun aesthetic. The puzzles are challenging and combining the spells gets delightfully complex before the end of the game. Overall, it’s a fun game, but I wish the tutorial was much better. The game didn’t pull me in, but it was interesting, and I didn’t not dislike the time I spent playing it.

If crafting, exploring and lots of humour are what you look for in a game, then Wytchwood is the game for you. I’ve certainly enjoyed my playthrough of the game. The story is interesting, the characters are cutesy, dark, and grotesque with humour sprinkled in for good measure and fantastic graphics to top it all off. Wytchwood is definitely one of my games of the year and it receives our highest score.

I enjoyed my playthrough of Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space in the beginning of the game. Unfortunately, about halfway through, the game struggled to hold my attention. But then that could be because I have developed a hatred of Max and his annoying voice. For folk who have played the first remastered Sam & Max game, there aren’t too many new surprises in store for them in this sequel. It’s more of the same zany scripts, storyline, sarcastic and acid humour that fans of the series like.

Do you remember Tamagotchi, a keychain-sized virtual pet simulation game? That’s what both Monster Rancher games remind me of. Not all players will enjoy both these games, especially players who aren’t into retro games. But for those that like the retro look-and-feel while playing games and want a trip down memory lane then you will find that in Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX. If you’re into virtual pets and battles, this is one of the best games to play to get your fix.

If you like relaxing platformers, this is a great game to pick up. I really don’t have any complaints about this title; it’s filled with charm, great puzzles, and the world’s cutest little robot friend. The music, the world, and the environmental clues make for a wonderful game.

Cruis’n Blast is a fantastic explosion of arcade goodness. If you’re looking for an arcade racer that’s just about having fun and enjoying some good music then this is a must buy. It is also a great game to enjoy with up to four players locally, even for players not well versed in racing games. The entire time I was playing the game I had a huge smile on my face from the comfortable controls and the utterly absurd spectacle on display. Plus, this game has dinosaurs, which is always a win in my books. The game may be incredibly short but it’s highly replayable. Cruis’n Blast will not be leaving my Nintendo Switch anytime soon and hopefully, you’ll enjoy it as much as I did.

Mixed - Speed Mazing
Dec 5, 2021

I admire Speed Mazing designing their game to be suited to all audiences. But unfortunately, it’s hard to recommend this game based on what little content it has to offer in its current state. The game really could do with more variety and depth in its gameplay. I can see the logic in playing this with a youngling but I can’t see this title lasting more than a few game nights at best in terms of attention span. I don’t like to bring up the price much in games but it is hard to ignore that many other games offer more at a much lower price. The developers’ hearts are clearly in the right place but this is a game you’ll speedily forget.

Although I did like my time spent in Dairoku: Agents of Sakuratani I have to say I was expecting more. And I don’t think it was just due to my wanting to play another Café Enchanté. They could have done so much more with the main storyline and with the battles they introduced. I felt that an intriguing plot was missing. A missed chance. Overall I have thought hard if I would go for a rating of I’m not sure, or an I like it. In the end I decided on the rating below as I must say the love interests and the side characters were fun.

Clockwork Aquario is just a wonderful arcade experience that had me grinning throughout. As a retro gamer and Wonder boy series fanboy this seemed like probably the best early Xmas present I could ask for this year (that’s gaming related). Now putting my fandom to the side I will point out this is a very short arcade game with very minimal extras. Some may feel this doesn’t justify the price of entry. However, this art style is gorgeous, the game is co-op and the feel-good factors I had playing this more than justifies the praise that this product deserves. Clockwork Aquario may have been deemed unsuitable for the industry back in the day but it sure fits in now and I’m grateful to have been given the opportunity to experience it.

For those of us who like Sokoban style puzzles, you will find everything you are looking for in Rob Riches. Reasonably priced and a pretty challenging game in the later levels. The game ran fine on my laptop and the controls work as they should. Rob Riches is a solid and enjoyable puzzle game that gets my vote.

Miracle Snack Shop was a pleasure to experience. I had a blast the whole way through. It was the perfect game to cozy up with in bed on a cold winter’s night. If you’re looking for a funny and sweet game to chill out with, I highly recommend this!

Revisiting KOTOR was a wonderful experience on Nintendo Switch. I found it surreal that once upon a time I was playing this game on a monstrously large console and now today I can play it portably. KOTOR felt like a title from the golden era of Bioware and while it certainly has its rough edges and flaws in places. It doesn’t deter this from being a classic well worth your time whether you’re a Star Wars fan or not. Credit goes to Aspyr for recreating those nostalgic feels in portable form. May the force be with you.

Actraiser Renaissance was definitely a surprising announcement to behold. It really goes to show that if there is a dedicated team out there, any game could possibly be up for a remake or remaster. But was this remaster truly needed? I would say it has its place. Similarly to the original, this game won’t appeal to everyone. The side-scroller section gives just a taste of what you would look for, with forgettable levels and (mostly) easy boss battles. The town building portion drags on, and the sieges can sometimes drag that irritation out. After the third world, it can start to get a bit repetitive. Fight in a side-scroller level, inhabit your new land, guide the people, beat the boss of that area, rinse and repeat. It is a charming game in of itself. Of course, I can’t really speak for those who have played the original, whether they should pick this game up or not. For those with no experience in this game, however, I can say that it’s an interesting experience. The experiences with the action side-scrolling and town building may leave you wanting more. But both portions are done competently enough that you may find yourself passing a few hours by fulfilling missions and defending your towns from monsters.

Nov 26, 2021

Joojee’s Journey is a fun, cosy adventure that does what it does well. The platforming is solid, the puzzles challenging yet not too complicated, and the aesthetic is just stunning. If you are looking for a short romp through a sweet world of animals, memories, and friendship, this is the game for you. I highly recommend it!

Grab Toy doesn’t offer many thrills or bring anything particularly unique to the experience. But if you’re looking to scratch that puzzle itch and want something relaxing that is available to you at a nice cheap price, then consider giving this a look. For me, the game just about scrapes a positive review, since I feel the developer set out what they wanted to do. I feel this would probably be a nice game for a parent to sit down and enjoy with their child as a cute bonding exercise but maybe that’s my imagination running away with me. Probably the best game with a rhino in it I’ve played this year but not the best puzzler.

Disliked - Hidden Office
Nov 25, 2021

Hidden Office isn’t a terrible game but there are many, many other Hidden Object type games out there that are much more fun to play. It took me around two hours in one sitting to complete the game, so the price point of the game being sold at $4.99, £3.99, € 3,99 is a little expensive for what you get. There are many hidden object games on Steam that are less expensive and more enjoyable.

I don’t often make jigsaw puzzles in real life, but I live with someone who loves nothing better than to clutter my kitchen table and countertop with puzzles of 1000 pieces or more. I felt How Buddy’s Parents Met is a very nice alternative to have the same puzzling fun in your pocket. It has all the qualities that make putting jigsaws together fun and adds the benefit of it being compact. With various difficulty levels, sweet images to form and a relaxing tune in the background, this love story will give your hours of fun

Ghosts and Apples at its core is a nice little puzzle game that is very pleasant to pick up and play in small gaming bites. If you love your puzzlers and are looking for something a little different I recommend giving this a shot. My only caution is the game does require some fast reflexes to get the most out of it. A design that doesn’t appeal to all puzzle fans particularly if you’re coming into it looking for a more chilled experience. The game also feels like it would be oodles better if you could enjoy the main game in co-op. At the end of the day Ghosts and Apples is a little charmer that can be enjoyed any time of the year not just Halloween.

Stamina in games is something that I could complain about for days, but overall, it doesn’t completely detract from the game. It’s still a masterpiece of art and video game design. With a few less bugs and a couple of tweaks, this game could be absolutely perfect. I loved my playthrough and would suggest it to just about anyone who digs a chill game with a relaxing atmosphere.

Liked-a-lot - Gynoug
Nov 20, 2021

Gynoug is a relic from the past that I had an absolute blast playing in the present. It took me back to a simpler time of gaming. One where you don’t need excessive plot and gaming gimmicks to impress. Just solid gameplay. Of course this style won’t appeal to everyone. Some folk might question why the game wasn’t just remade from the ground up. Gynoug, for me, has aged surprisingly well as a Mega Drive game and if you somehow missed this back in the day, now is a great time to try it at a fair price point.
