The Baten Kaitos duology is a testament to the creativity and innovation that can be found in the world of JRPGs, and it deserves to be experienced by fans of the genre.
Without a doubt, Phantom Liberty is Cyberpunk 2077 as it was always meant to be. CD Projekt Red rolled with the punches and produced one of the best games ever produced by them.
Lies of P might not be Bloodborne 2, but it is an excellent and engaging experience inspired by some of the best games in the industry.
Gunbrella is a complete package of fun, wackiness, and charm. The gameplay is tight and satisfying, while the characters and story go places I didn't expect.
Eternights is a good first outing for Studio Sai but it's held back by overly perverse characters and predictable story beats.
Chants of Sennaar uses the idea of linguistics in an exciting way, one that very few games out there have done before. It's highly entertaining and filled with puzzles that are intricate and engaging. Still, it's also filled with some exasperating stealth sections that wholly detract from the more critical aspects of learning the languages. Chants of Sennaar is also an aesthetically pleasing experience filled with colourful locations worth discovering for the sights alone.
Starfield is a technical marvel for Bethesda, delivering an excellent adventure across the cosmos. It's polished, filled with personality and feels familiar but entirely new at the same time.
Sabotage Studio’s Sea of Stars is an instant classic. It is an engrossing story with beautiful characters bolstered with an exciting battle system that respects its predecessors while establishing its legacy.
Immortals of Aveum is a great first outing for Ascendant Studios, combining first-person, magic, and fantasy.
Skills and smarts are not sins in Blasphemous 2. This stellar spiritual successor to one of the best modern Metroidvanias uses them to strengthen significantly its overall spirit of play.
The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood is deep and filled with memorable moments. It also has a lot of heart and deals with some heavy themes with grace, which I'm confident many will resonate with.
Clash: Artifacts of Chaos is fueled by a gorgeous art direction that drives the obscure world of Zenozoik.
Atlas Fallen has a lot going for it, with a beautiful world filled with things to do. Its narrative and characters have some issues, but the combat and freedom offered within its world are excellent.
Disney Illusion Island looks and sounds fantastic. It's a great starting point for anyone just getting into Metroidvanias. It's not very difficult and doesn't bring much new to the table, but it's still a fun, whimsical time.
Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons updates the classic brawling franchise with new mechanics and gameplay loops that feel fun, impactful, and chaotic in all the right ways.
Exoprimal’s filled with intense moments as you experience its story, with exciting gameplay and impressive moments you’ll grin through.
Arcadian Atlas is an inoffensive SRPG that has some fun mechanics, giving a pared-down iteration of its contemporaries.
Let's! Revolution! uses the basis of a classic PC game and adds numerous layers of style and substance. It has amazingly animated characters and a gameplay loop that will hook you at each procedurally generated turn.
Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes Definitive Edition isn't the ambitious remake, but it does enough to warrant a playthrough.
As the most accessible and engaging entry in the series, #Pikmin4 is a treat. It’s like a summertime sorbet, light, flavourful, and made with only the best ingredients.
