Try Hard Guides's Reviews

Overall, Escape from the Red Planet is a really enjoyable arcade tower-defense game that’s joy comes from the simplicity of the gameplay. While the controls aren’t perfect, there’s still a lot of fun to be had eliminating Martian bugs as long as you’re careful. The gameplay loop provides enough challenge and requires enough strategy that fans of this genre are likely to find hours of fun in this title from Frosty Pop.

8.7 / 10.0 - Hotel Renovator
Mar 7, 2023

Hotel Renovator is more than just another addition to the simulator genre, elevating what it means to create a property renovation game. No matter how you play, there’s a lot of satisfaction that will come as a result of seeing a room you created fully come together. While it has occasional issues with textures and NPCs, anyone who enjoys a good home makeover will have a lot of fun in this game.

9 / 10.0 - Deck 'Em!
Mar 6, 2023

For what it is, Deck ‘Em! is a solid little game that you can’t ask a whole lot more from. While some sense of progression or something to spend your in-game money on would be nice, the game exists as a fun little time killer and is sure to appeal to plenty of players.

10 / 10.0 - Rytmos

Rytmos is a puzzle game made by musicians, with the goal of giving you a mentally stimulating, musically-enriched relaxing time. In this goal, the game succeeds spectacularly and leaves very little to be wanting.

7.5 / 10.0 - Redemption Reapers
Feb 24, 2023

Redemption Reapers is a brutal strategy RPG where every move you make can be the difference between success and defeat. While the game might be unapproachable to start, there are moments of true joy to be felt for those who are willing to put in the effort. Although to get there, you’ll have to be willing to take multiple punches to the jaw after trying to get through the UI.

8.5 / 10.0 - Birth
Feb 21, 2023

Birth is a wonderful little adventure through a strange city filled with unsettling creatures that never seem to scare you away. The hand-drawn art and range of puzzles make the game incredibly engaging, leaving you always curious to see what’s behind each door. While some of the objectives might be hard to decipher at first, most players will have a genuinely good time deciphering the codes.

9 / 10.0 - Blood Bowl 3
Feb 20, 2023

For Blood Bowl fans, Blood Bowl 3 is the definitive version of the game, so long as you’re okay waiting a bit to get your DLC teams back. If you’re new to the series, however, you may want to try out Blood Bowl 1 or 2 first to get a feel for the game at a friendlier price.

10 / 10.0 - Pharaoh: A New Era
Feb 17, 2023

I can’t recommend Pharaoh: A New Era enough. Whether you’re a fan of the classic game or a city-builder who’s never played it, this game will offer you a fantastic experience for a price point you simply can’t beat.

6.5 / 10.0 - Waves of Steel
Feb 8, 2023

It feels like Waves of Steel wants to accomplish a lot with its wartime story and comprehensive shipbuilder. Unfortunately, the actual battle gameplay feels very simple and can be overcome pretty easily by just overclocking your ships. While the game seems to be getting positive reviews from players who love this genre, it’s unlikely to become a favorite among the general gaming audience.

Tails: The Backbone Preludes is a really beautiful noir story that might go over the heads of some of the average player base. The dark themes and conversation mechanics are reminiscent of Disco Elysium but on a much smaller scale. It’s nice to live in this world for a playthrough, taking in the darkness of this dystopian city, but it might not be one players feel like returning to after the credits roll the first time.

8 / 10.0 - Backfirewall
Feb 2, 2023

While Backfirewall_ might not be the most challenging puzzle game on the market, it makes up with its unique charm and humor. While some of the jokes and punchlines feel like meta-humor from a decade ago, the game does a great job of making you feel hurt when you’re unable to help certain characters. Throughout the five-hour story, players will understand the failure of a boss and his need for preservation.

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake is a tribute to over 20 years of the show’s history, banking on classic references and memes to impress players. While there is a lot to do in this new version of Bikini Bottom, it largely involves much of the same linear progression as past games. If you’ve followed and enjoyed the last two decades of the show, then this game will likely be perfect for you.

Dead Space is the perfect video game remake. Whether you’re an old fan or a new player, you will find a fantastically gruesome good time with this title. But look out, this horror classic might just leave some scars alongside that nostalgia.

Path of the Midnight Sun is an indie game full of ambition. While not everything the game tries works so well, you have to appreciate it for trying. With great characters and interesting mechanics, overall I had a good time and I can see this game being someone’s hidden gem favorite.

A Space for the Unbound is a great coming-of-age game that presents difficult topics to players in a compelling way. The game’s art style is beautiful, with many detailed scenes clearly lovingly created by the artists at Mojiken. While there are moments where it feels slow, this is a game that will last with players for many years to come.

5 / 10.0 - Farlanders
Jan 19, 2023

Farlanders has a well-written story and some interesting ideas behind it. However, the game does a bad job of presenting its most important gameplay mechanics and will punish you hard for not knowing them fairly quickly into the campaign.

7 / 10.0 - Scrap Riders
Jan 11, 2023

Scrap Riders is an interesting game, with fantastic visuals and sound design and a unique take on the beat-em-up genre. However it isn’t without its flaws, and the lack of confidence in its own identity really weighs down the experience. Hopefully Games For Tutti learns from the experience, because I would definitely like to see an improved sequel.

We Are The Caretakers has a lot of really good ideas, However, the gameplay itself is a bit uninspired and can be a drag to get through, even with a pretty short total runtime. Fans of turn-based combat should have fun with this game, even if they don’t find it totally compelling.

Potion Craft is the best alchemy game on the market. If you’re a fan of alchemy in games like Skyrim but wish there was more to it, you might find that there’s no better way to kill an hour or two than by opening up Potion Craft and running your quaint little shop.
