Evilgamerz's Reviews

Outside of the main missions, there are plenty of other activities to keep you busy in the Burning Shores. Exploring ruins is one of them, known from Forbidden West. However, these are now a bit more extensive and there are sometimes even extra side missions attached to them. For example, during a main mission we accidentally came across a ruin and wanted to do it “quickly”. After completing the ruins we suddenly ran into an old acquaintance. What followed was a fantastic side mission with lots of action, emotion and nice loot. The expansion seems to contain much more of these kinds of secrets than the main game and therefore gives you a lot of content for a low price. Burning Shores can be purchased for only € 20 and that is a bargain.

8.5 / 10.0 - Endless Dungeon
Nov 3, 2023

The quality, love and finish radiates from the Endless Dungeon game. The makers have tried to get the most out of it in every area. Combining three different genres can be risky, but it manages to find a nice balance here. Graphically, this game looks very cool and every hero is a blast. Building turrets is sometimes disappointing because you cannot collect enough resources due to the randomly generated levels. But if you manage to collect enough raw materials, all the puzzle pieces will fit together perfectly. Highly recommended!

8.5 / 10.0 - Fearmonium
Dec 16, 2023

Fearmonium is a Metroidvania with a pretty heavy theme. The depressing themes in combination with the gloomy environments are not for everyone. It might even put off those who are interested. On the other hand, it has become a very original game in the genre that I would like to recommend to everyone without too many caveats. Even if you have a phobia of clowns.

8.5 / 10.0 - Tekken 8
Jan 23, 2024

With an excellent gaming year of 2023 behind us, with Street Fighter 6 and Mortal Kombat 1, among others, receiving great praise, the competition in the land of fighting games is enormous. But fortunately, Tekken 8 takes on that competition with ease. Despite the steep learning curve, Tekken's combat is as usual, with the new Heat feature introducing some extra aggression into the game. Moreover, the game contains enough content to keep you busy for a while. Once you're done with the relatively short story mode, there are the Character episodes, the Arcade Quest mode and the excellent Ghost Battles to keep you fighting. And if you feel like you're good enough, take a step into multiplayer. It remains to be seen how the battle pass will take shape and how new fighters will be introduced. But after an absence of almost 10 years, Tekken is back, and these are golden times for fans of the genre.

8.5 / 10.0 - Welcome to ParadiZe
Feb 27, 2024

Actually, Welcome to Paradize turned out to be a huge surprise for me and could even be called addictive! The game plays great, is accessible, doesn't go too deep in terms of RPG and has unique game elements, including taking over zombies that can work for you. It's not another dime a dozen game that we see on a regular basis. The game world is varied and not immense and in terms of missions you mainly get main quests and sometimes a small side quest that always keeps things clear. Welcome to Paradize definitely has its rough edges and the constant supply of annoying zombies can be frustrating at times; Still, this is a game that, in my opinion, you should play for the relatively good price that is already available at launch if you like a good action RPG. The fact that people don't take everything too seriously and look at current reality with a wink is something I think is a bonus and fits in perfectly with the setting.

It is expected that all DLC will be included in the very pleasant price and you can find all the things you can expect from a PC port. The resolution and frame rate can be significantly higher than previous versions and with a much greater draw distance, this is the definitive version of Dragon Quest: Builders that you can purchase. Although this port is a bit late, it is a very good port of a game that is still fun.

8.5 / 10.0 - Dragon's Dogma 2
Apr 18, 2024

Dragon's Dogma 2 almost passed with honors, but misses the mark with unnecessary and superfluous in-game items for real money. Graphically the game is usually beautiful, but there is still some work to be done here, just like with the sound and some controls? Is it a cult classic or not? I don't dare say that yet, but the game does a lot right, but also a number of things not. Time will tell whether Capcom will address the concerns that have been going back and forth across the web or not. Does the game have a decent replay value? Strangely enough, there is always something to discover and, as with other open world games, new things are discovered by gamers years and sometimes hundreds of hours later.

8.5 / 10.0 - The Land Beneath Us
May 12, 2024

The depth of this modest game that not many people will probably know, ensures that The Land Beneath Us will take many hours to complete. The Relics, the weapons, the upgrades that you can then make on both, the perma-upgrades in the Lab that you can purchase and the versatility of the gameplay and platforms on which you play ensure that you can have a lot of fun with this game . After about 5 hours of playing I was only through 4 levels and then I was only halfway through. After that it becomes a bit more challenging and you will have to spend many hours again. The small details, including the chips, the quests that you can complete separately, the teleporting and the ability to even skip turns, also make the game feel very versatile.

8.5 / 10.0 - Baladins
May 14, 2024

Baladins is a very fun new twist on the choose your own adventure genre. The game looks very fun and cute and the many stories you can discover each have their own challenges. As a player you are really rewarded here for reading, discovering, talking and looking around. It also certainly helps that the story with the dragon is full of surprises and a round does not take too long. This way you can quickly play the game for fifteen minutes to see if you can make any progress. The finish is very neat and with a few small missing details here and there, there is little to complain about. I hope that we see this concept in many other themes and topics. If you like role-playing games, stories or puzzles then this is definitely a game you should play.

Do My Best knows how to create a great game with The Bookwalker: Thief of Tales with a lot of original ideas and combinations of elements. The world and story is super interesting. You read all the dialogues here and you want to skip as little as possible here. The puzzles and gameplay is not super complicated, but this keeps the pace of the story nice. Each of the six books is about an hour of fun and this takes a little longer if you really try to check everything. A great game, especially when you consider that the studio is only two strong. Highly recommended and I'm really looking forward to the next game from this studio.

8.2 / 10.0 - Mortal Kombat 1
Sep 17, 2023

The gameplay of Mortal Kombat 1 is excellent and it is old-fashioned coarse. Blood, sweat and broken bones will dominate your screen for hours. This is also helped by the fact that the game looks more than fine graphically. The characters look detailed, just like the environments. The running of the characters in the cutscenes sometimes looks a bit crazy, but otherwise the game jumps off your screen. The story, especially for a fighting game, is also very rewarding and an excellent introduction to future games in this series. Invasion mode is nice for variety but not good enough to keep players busy for long.

8.2 / 10.0 - Project Blue
Oct 19, 2023

Project Blue is really a game aimed at fans of the genre and enthusiasts of NES platformers. You don't get any help and the game can be frustratingly challenging. Visually, this is a game that really looks like a retro title. The makers do not push the hardware to its limits and do not do anything innovative that makes the game immediately visually striking. This is a positive point, because it conveys the Mega Man vibe very well. The first few minutes or images say it all, it's a NES platformer that does everything perfectly as they would have done in the eighties. It is a game that you can also purchase as a NES cartridge and this is the ultimate way to experience this game. The Nintendo Switch version is a nice alternative for players who cannot easily get the NES console from the attic.

8.2 / 10.0 - Let's! Revolution!
Apr 10, 2024

Theoretically, Let's! Revolution! very little content. You play 10 levels and defeat the King who keeps tracking you down the levels before, and that's it. However, the characters and skills you unlock provide the challenge. In addition, you can increase the difficulty level to give you a little more challenge, without making the game really difficult. The visual representation of the game and the gameplay options and tactics you use take this game to a high level. Although a run feels conceptually the same, the skills still give the game an extra dimension, so you will soon be playing for dozens of hours. Let's! Revolution! This makes it a surprising game in my portfolio, which I really enjoyed and which also manages to live up to expectations on the console.

Hidden Through Time 2 is the perfect relaxation game. There are no time limits, scores, penalties or major mistakes you can make. You can also play the game nicely together, an extra pair of eyes certainly helps and makes the game even more fun. It looks very colorful and with editor and hopefully an active community you can expect many more levels. The only frustration here is when you can't find the item. I must have spent tens of minutes looking for a spoon before finally finding it in a very logical place. The feeling of victory was great after finally finding that spoon and that is why these types of books and games have been popular for years.

8 / 10.0 - REPLIKATOR
Jul 17, 2023

After spending many hours on REPLIKATOR I personally notice that the game has 2 sides; One side is very positive. I'm mainly talking about the gameplay, which is accessible, yet challenging, and the other side is the light repetition that quickly plays up. At some point you will have seen the boarding of the rooms and the emptying of them. It is also a pity that you have to start the game over and over again when you die. It would have been more fun if the roguelike gameplay had an alternative option to just be able to replay the levels until the final boss. You do notice that you are getting further and further, but that sometimes takes too long to remain really interesting. However, REPLIKATOR is a unique title that can certainly be an excellent filler for the empty hours.

May 27, 2023

Toodee and Topdee is a unique game that actually does almost everything right in its simplicity. It's nice that you can go both co-op and alone in the many levels of the game. In terms of replay value, you may not be able to finish the game again, but if you want you can also try to collect all the ladybugs that walk through the levels. Each chapter brings its new features, including blocks that fall down, or buttons that bring up or remove certain platforms. The bosses are also quite challenging, but by adjusting the difficulty you can still overcome each level quite easily. It is therefore up to the player to determine the balance, although the contrast between those difficulties is quite large.

You will often see that the lesser-known titles often score the best. Earlier we saw how cool the game Children of Silentown was, and this is just such a title. With a big crash in the middle part, I could enjoy myself for hours with this game. There isn't a lot of challenge in the puzzles, but I had a great time with the light platform elements in combination with the daily activities and adventures you experience. The animals that serve as NPCs are attractively designed and the game's graphics are beautifully put together. The fact that there is still some atmosphere missing in terms of audio should not be such a disaster. The many loading times that pass you by are a blemish on the high quality that they try to bring. The game mainly brings relaxation and will never put the pressure too high. Restful enjoyment is perhaps the most important thing here and it certainly succeeds.

8 / 10.0 - Days of Doom
Sep 21, 2023

Days of Doom is an excellent example of a good turn-based game that is both accessible, but offers enough challenge. The events on the map are interesting to read and the choices you make remain risky. Additionally, you need to make sure you don't take too many detours because you can run out of gas if you don't collect enough. There is also a merchant where you can purchase resources and purchase inventory. The most important thing is learning the characters, which in itself happens fairly automatically. Based on that you can make a plan on the battlefield. Completing Days of Doom is quite a challenge, especially as the game only seems to get more difficult with each walkthrough.

Is Mirage worth it? Of course. Although it is again a typical Assassin's Creed and clearly an oversized DLC from Valhalla, it is a relief to really have to sneak around with Basim again. This is what made the series so popular and Mirage shows that it is still a lot of fun. With about 30 hours of gameplay, the game is a lot more manageable than the gigantic previous parts, but certainly no less. Moreover, you only pay €45 for Mirage instead of the full €70, for which we have to compliment the developer. The game starts off quite weak with an introduction that is far too long, but once you get past that you can really get on with it. Assassins's Creed Mirage is an excellent "snack" where stealth is back and you don't have to spend 150 hours to see everything. More is not always better, and that proof is provided here.

My Little Universe is a game that you can put a lot of hours into. After dozens of hours, I'm not even halfway through. It's a game where you don't have to do or think much. You are constantly collecting materials and the makers have managed to make collecting and returning these materials a very enjoyable experience. It's not a game about fighting or building a settlement. You unlock a new hexagonal box every time. If you are looking for a game where you can spend some (or a lot) of time on the go without any difficulties, then My Little Universe is highly recommended.
