Momodora: Moonlit Farewell is beautifully simple, perhaps to a fault. Switch owners who take the chance on this 8-hour metroidvania will enjoy its fluid combat, glittery spritework, and mild platforming. I'm sad to see the Momodora series conclude, but I have hopes that developers Bombservice continue to design gorgeous metroidvanias.
Overall, the two-volume set that honors the NAMCOT brand is worth a go, especially if you revel in 8-bit history. It's a neat departure from the usual Museum releases, but there are certainly some forgettable titles amongst the bunch.
‘NHL 22’ really takes a big stride forward in the franchise. Having it on a PS5 is a big part of what makes the difference in some ways. The haptic feedback really gives the game another level. NHL games have gotten stale in years past (15-18 come to mind in some ways). Over the past few releases, EA Vancouver has taken it to newer heights and this is a leap in a great direction. I haven’t been this excited to try and run a franchise into the ground because I have no idea what I am doing, or go pro and take on the greats for the cup.
In sum, The Cult of the Holy Detonation is a nice bookend to a massive game. The extra story content is really interesting, but I am on the fence about the objective-based missions (mainly because they’re tough and I’m just not very good at this game!). This DLC further showcases inXile is in their prime when it comes to compelling, turn-based, action-and-story driven RPGs. At just $7, it’s pretty easy to recommend this content if you at all enjoyed the base game or the first DLC.
Saints Row: The Third was a sacred moment in time where lunatics reimagined the animus of an open-world crime game. It enabled players to thunderously lead a prestigious gang of miscreants and also turn themselves into a toilet. Nine years later Saints Row: The Third Remastered's glut of Content is more difficult to digest, but its outrageous ambience is still so sweet.
Death's Door is a whimsical adventure about a questing crow reaping souls in hopes of saving his own. The wonderfully vivid world and classic combat make for an obviously inspired game that is over far too soon.
I just wanted to keep going and going. It was fun to go through and just destroy the monsters and find what lay in the next room Curse of the Dead Gods isn’t a perfect game, but it’s a fun game that is really worth the time.
Trials of Fire is a great game for beginners or veteran of deck building games. The variety of challenges, characters, and cards to choose from allows you to use your brain and strategize while also having fun and completing the challenges.
Flight School Studio's Stonefly is a lovely game that features a creative story, a gorgeous art style, and gameplay that is more relaxing than it is intense and frustrating. The only knock is some finicky controls, but that isn't an obstacle that is going to get in the way of your enjoyment of the game.
As a longtime Yakuza fan, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is the Goro Majima game I've always dreamed of and somehow more unhinged than ever before. Ryu Ga Gotoku has outdone themselves once again and I'm so excited for players to get their hands on the helm to take Yakuza's version of a naval RPG for a spin.
Resident Evil Village infuses the newfound first-person horror of Resident Evil 7 with the tense action survival of genre-defining Resident Evil 4. This is a game confident in its ability to terrify players while empowering them past the dread of overwhelming odds.
The Capcom Arcade Stadium is a wonderful trip down memory lane that may not contain everything that you want or love, but has enough variety to justify the price and keep you entertained when you need a break from today’s big titles.
Space Channel 5 VR: Kinda Funky News Flash! presents an opportunity to inhabit 1999's idyllic vision of 1960's culture through 2020's virtual reality. Delivering this extremely specific hallucinatory novelty required an alarming price tag and the notice of a brisk runtime. Space Channel 5 remains a lustrous expression of the Dreamcast's ethos, and a chance to actively embrace it merits attention and applause. Space Channel 5 VR is a brief, beautiful celebration of a bygone era.
Darksiders Genesis is a strong entry to the franchise and it’s one that should appeal not only to fans and newcomers of Darksiders, but also to anyone that enjoys a isometric dungeons crawlers with two player co-op support.
Great googly moogly, SCHiM is a beautiful feat of a 3D-platformer with puzzle elements. Its most charming and emotional moments will sneak up on you, so enjoy every single second of this cozy tale of a little shadow that could.
All of this said, my first journey through Persona 4 Golden was a positive one. While it almost lost me with the incredible amount of story and dialogue, it set me straight when the gameplay finally kicked in. The nearly perfect juggling act between wild visuals, great story, and familiar JRPG gameplay has me sold that I need to check out other Persona games in the series. Hopefully, they make them for the PC. Persona 4 Golden was an excellent PC game that deserves gamers' time and attention.
Demeo: PC Edition is going to be a fun game. It has all the makings of a game that a group of dedicated people will play consistently. Having the mixture of RPG, action, DnD, and card gaming create this harmonious experience that is simple as it is fun, but in a strategic complicated manner.
Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee is a classic game that might be stuck in 2001 visually, but still is fun to play thanks to the story and characters.
AO Tennis 2 is this generation's Top Spin 4. It takes over a baton that has been carried through mis-steps and let-downs as tennis fans young and old finally have a game worth their time and effort. It's not perfect by any stretch but up against the competition and its predecessor it stands head-and-shoulders above them.
Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 is a good game that features a variety of good-to-decent events and a wonderful ability to play alongside friends. The inconsistency of the game's design with controls and the difficulty arc that spikes hurt the game but aren't dealbreakers.
