8.5 / 10.0 - Worms W.M.D
Nov 30, 2017

Sure, the camera could have been more modernized, but its shortcomings are worth dealing with. The hours flew by in not only the single-player levels, but also the constant stream of multiplayer matches. If you are searching for a strategic timesink, this game can get you quite far.

8.5 / 10.0 - The Final Station
Mar 7, 2018

While it is more linear than I would have liked, it delivers on a thrilling experience that I can't get enough of. The pixelated style and its gameplay are some of the smoothest seen on the platform, and it is hard to pull yourself away just a tiny bit. The Final Station is an intriguing journey through and through.

8.5 / 10.0 - Sally's Law
Apr 8, 2018

The underlying message is quite a nice one, and certainly stays with you. From a gameplay perspective, it is also rather fun to nail down puzzles the best that you can. It doesn't matter if that is alone or with a friend, because the game tweaks it enough to serve both audiences well. If you are in the need of a brisk yet engaging puzzle platformer, Sally's Law deserves a spot on your Nintendo Switch.

The strategy and management elements are fantastic hooks that kept me glued to the screen for a stupid number of hours. There were some frustrating moments, particularly towards the end of the game, but it always managed to put a smile on my face. Just a lovely thing!.

8.5 / 10.0 - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Apr 25, 2017

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a decent upgrade for anyone in the need of one. It has a very solid Battle Mode that made me more happy than I thought. Next to that, it has all of the content you adored from the original plus the downloadable content baked into it.

8.5 / 10.0 - BYE-BYE BOXBOY!
Mar 23, 2017

Naturally, the game doesn't feel as fresh as the previous two, but the charm is there in spades. Bye-Bye BoxBoy! succeeded in keeping me entertained for over ten hours, which is what I truly want from another BoxBoy! entry. If you want more BoxBoy puzzles, hope this gets localized soon.

The Lion's Song is a fun journey through and through. While I did wish that it explored certain themes more, I can't be overly grumpy at the end result. It offers an engaging experience that instantly struck a chord with me. The presentation, choices and flow just feel incredibly well crafted by its developers.

8.5 / 10.0 - Pic-a-Pix Deluxe
Jan 8, 2018

Overall though, Pic-a-Pix Deluxe is a grand time. The puzzles are incredibly fair and it helps that the unique twists are actually really clever. The UI can sometimes be clumsy, but those problems disappear with familiarity. The sharp and crafty puzzles are appealing and worth the hurdle of the interface. It is really the biggest compliment I can give.

8.5 / 10.0 - Super One More Jump
Jan 29, 2018

Super One More Jump has a lot to love. It is incredibly addicting with tons of levels to get through. My struggle to get every blue gem became an obsession and 100%-ing it all takes time and effort. Add to that the additional modes and graphical styles, and you have something that feels very full and complete. If only the music was better... if only.

All in all, I am happy that I played through Hyrule Warriors again. The experience is a lot of fun, and the scenarios are incredibly diverse.

Even if you can master that side of it, it's a relentless game that doesn't know when to halt. Some patterns can absolutely destroy you without proper notice, forcing you to play over and perfect certain levels. While that side can be little irritating now and again, it can't be denied the amount of effort Q-Games put in.

8.5 / 10.0 - WarioWare Gold
Jul 29, 2018

Are there a problems? Just a few. I wanted the main campaign to be slightly longer and some of the rewards are unremarkable. Those problems didn't cause much harm to my overall feelings, but it is room for improvement when the series returns yet again.

Naturally there are a few things to be said about the story's setup and the not-so-massive enemy count, but this can be forgiven in the grand scheme of things. The game knows what it wants to be, and I gladly spent well close to 100 hours seeing it all through. If you are looking for a game that will keep you going, Labyrinth of Refrain has your back.

In every scenario, logic is what helps to bring you closer to the next mission. Every puzzle becomes harsher and forces you to figure out more on your own. It might be unrelenting for the average player, but puzzle lovers will absolutely get a kick out of it.

8.5 / 10.0 - Yo-Kai Watch 3
Dec 5, 2018

Mind you, this is nothing you can't overcome with the right state of mind. The hours really fly by, and even after completion, I couldn't stop playing pieces where possible. For newcomers and veterans alike, this third installment has a little something for everyone.

While I am quite disappointed that you can't share any challenges online, the content that is there is super enjoyable. The more than 30 levels are easily replayable multiple times, and it is fun to play around with the Sandbox Mode. What helps is that the controls feel built with a controller mind, instead of just trying to add in a less inferior scheme. Overall, Hugecalf Studios created a game I will gladly tinker with once in a while, which is an accomplishment in my book.

8.5 / 10.0 - Super Mario Maker 2
Jun 26, 2019

Super Mario Maker 2's newfound strength is hidden within the details, and that is what I really like about it. In its wake, it lost some of its Mario Paint roots, but Story Mode brings enough fun to overcome that sadness. Players and creators, rejoice.

The selection of smart fixes makes the game less of a grind and mostly an experience that keeps on trucking. While I don't think much of the Chamber Dungeons and other added trinkets, the refinements made to the overall flow make the journey worth it. For newcomers or Zelda veterans, Link's Awakening is a hoot from beginning to end.

8.5 / 10.0 - Muse Dash
Oct 1, 2019

While the progression system is mostly sound, I feel that the grind towards stat-altering costumes is somewhat harsh. In addition, the English text lines could have used a little more editing. Those points aside, this is the most complete experience of Muse Dash yet with a constant stream of updates in the pipeline.
