Despite a good sense of humour, Maize failed to convince either as a walking simulator and a graphic adventure. Its progression is based on a linear and recurring process which require to find new objects to solve basic puzzles that feel too much similar to each other.

Inspired by masterpieces like Syndicate and GTA, Tokyo 42 is both fascinating and imperfect. This frenetic shooter is set in a futuristic metropolis, dominated by violence and pop-culture.

After the evocative The Unfinished Swan, the developers of Giant Sparrow re-center with What Remains of Edith Finch, a narrative adventure that stages the story (stories) of the bizarre Finch family. Although the structure is typical of the walking simulator, with the spotlight on exploration and narration, the developers demonstrate an original and imaginative taste for experimentation.

Outlast II is a huge step forward in both narration and graphics from Red Barrels' first survival horror experiment. Even if the first chapter had a greater balance between the different gameplay mechanics, its sequel offers one of the best overall experience for those loving horror games. Ready to feel the fear?

The Silver Case is not an easy game. Its visual-novel story needs to be carefully followed, as it can be confused at certain points. However, the game's atmosphere and Suda51's style can overcome some of its limitations.

Everything is different from anything you've ever tried in your life. For this reason, it can split the community and open a debate about the meaning of the videogames, the philosophy behind them, and what can/should be told in a game. The new creation from game designer David OReilly is not suitable for everyone: only if you are willing to get involved, you will really have a chance to enjoy the concept behind it.

Windlands, even before a game, is the demonstration of what VR can do for a game.

Yomawari: Night Alone is an original horror tale that shuns 3D and hyper-realism to stake everything on the atmosphere and on the discrepancy between "cartoon" style and horrific themes.

Although is not a perfect title (the fighting system is not entirely convincing in terms of balance and rhythm), Paper Mario Color Splash remains a work of undoubted quality; delicious to see, listen to and explore.

What an incredible year: after Inside, here's another software taht will influence and change the way we'll experience a story. Virginia is not a good game. Neither a good movie. It is something different: something new.

Recore is a game constantly looking for a balance between its many souls. Developers had obviously aimed high but were forced to downsize along the way. The result is a title still enjoyable , an obvious homage to an old way of creating action-adventure games, with all the pros and cons of the case. Here and there one can see touches of modernity, but the adventure is a basic old school structure which draws liberally from the tradition, not always with satisfactory results.

Bound is a strange title. It's not a platform, neither a walking simulator. Is a game that values aesthetics over any other aspects, and for this reason in beautiful, different and flimsy.

Brainy Studio has created a platform with a good dose of originality and experimentation, with bits of adventure and rythm game mechanics. A good formula that manages to capture the players attention, but its however, weakened by the lack of challenge and a series of tedious and quite frustrating musical levels. Anyway, TurnOn proves to be a pleasant, bizarre and curious gaming experience.

MegaTagmension is an extremely niche product, made of pure and simple fanservice, reserved strictly to the fans but without any attention to the design itself, which is necessary to guarantee a real entertaining and interesting game experience.

Fragments of Him deals with a complex theme, not so easily represented in videogames: death. During the two-hour long path that leads the player to the end, the Sassybot team ask us to reflect on the sense and the consequences of the loss, but also on the value of objects and memories. Wheter or not Fragments of Him was able to reach its goal may be subjective, but the game and the concept are still admirable.

Starfox Guard is a small game, well thought - especially in terms of progression - and with an online component that enriches the gaming experience. It has small expectations and gets straight to the point.

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re; Birth 2 continues on the good path inaugurated by the first King; Birth, only in this case the jump is less evident: not so much for demerits of this remake, as for the big problems that afflicted the first chapter of the series.
