Freedom Planet will immediately bring back memories of 16-bit platformers, namely with the Sonic series but it would be unfair to see this as a mere Sonic copy. Freedom Planet displays more than enough to tell itself apart from the supersonic blue hedgehog and the game's stunning visual presentation, its level of content and fun gameplay mechanics will satisfy Nintendo Switch players at a surprising level.

Haunted Dungeons: Hyakki Castle may not be the greatest game ever made but that doesn't stand on its way of being a welcome RPG to arrive on the Nintendo Switch. Thanks to creative gameplay, a great variety of characters and a good dose of Japanese and Western themes, the game's qualities stand out against its rather uninspired level design and unimpressive soundtrack.

Senran Kagura Reflexions is a something strange. Other than putting the Joy-Con to work, there is little in this work that amounts to a game in its goals and purposes. While the physics included are well executed, there is little content, the dialogues are not compelling, the entire experience is not well structured and there just is very little of a game that can be found in this spin off from the Senran Kagura main series.

SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy may not be the most ambitious fighting game ever created but that doesn't stand on its way of being a fun and accessible title that will appeal to fans of SNK fighting games and which features heavy doses of humour. The gameplay is overly simplistic and often the game feels superficial, which is somehow balanced by the enjoyable moments spent at following the characters' interactions with each other and dialogues.

Labyrinth of Refrain: Coven of Dusk lands on the Nintendo Switch helped by a series of good gameplay mechanics and a combat system that is fast and welcome to handle by the players. While not everyone will be on board with Labyrinth of Refrain and its peculiar humour, the game will easily and deservedly win over the preferences of JRPG fans.

Jake Hunter Detective Story: Ghost of the Dusk can certainly appeal to those looking for a visual novel and for a murder mystery type of game, its art style and content go very much in that sense. However, expectations fall short due to the lack of challenge of the investigations and the game does not transmit the players a real feeling of progression and advance in the game's plot.

Nickelodeon Kart Racers would always be compared to the most recognizable series in its genre, but regardless of that, this is an immense disappointment for fans of the names involved in this game. Starting from a very limited number of Nickelodeon series that are represented, this game does little to no service in terms of visuals, soundtrack and overall entertainment. One to go back to the drawing board for a complete revision.

8 / 10 - Death Mark
Nov 21, 2018

Death Mark is an involving, disturbing and addictive game that will grab the players' attention and feelings with its marvelous visual style, script quality and lifespan. In n adventure that is as thrilling as it can be terrifying, Death Mark is one of the most remarkable games to come out on the Nintendo Switch this year and an excellent starting point to more games of this genre.

Tennis World Tour might have been made with some ambitious goals in mind but unfortunately it doesn't take long to realize that not only the game's promises are not coming true, the game itself has virtually nothing going for it. Due to a botched delayed gameplay that leads to player's actions being horribly lagged and implemented differently, as well as a completely obsolete audiovisual environment and a glaring lack of content, there is no possible way to recommend Tennis World Tour to anyone, whether tennis fan or not.

Mercenaries Wings: The False Phoenix cannot be criticised for what it's not and it's certainly not a bad game - it's artwork is pleasant enough for the eyes and all the game mechanics work. The problem is, it doesn't do anything to rise above the mere threshold of functionality and it sticks to generic and worn out formulas for its plot and dialogues, it's riddled with clichés all over and the gameplay just feels shallow and unrewarding.

Everspace is a fun, challenging and involving roguelike game set in a space environment that features a very strict difficulty curve and an enormous amount of content to explore. While the difficulty level might seem too unforgiving at moments, this is a game that certainly feels rewarding for its players and those brave enough to venture into its depths will come out scathed but satisfied.

Fitness Boxing has more in common with a fitness app rather than with a competitive game, but that doesn't mean that it's not able to provide a fun, involving and entertaining experience. Its high degree of player customization is one of its main selling points, though the motion capture mechanics need some work and the musical background could be much better but overall, Fitness Boxing does its job in a way that will capture the players' attention.

Astérix & Obélix XXL 2 is back after thirteen years, in a conversion adapted to the current generation. Under the form of an action and adventure game, Astérix & Obélix XXL 2 includes a wide amount of content and features several fun and enjoyable moments, even though its conversion could have used more work when it comes to the sound effects. Not a groundbreaking title but still a fun game, which should be sold for a lower price tag.

Yo-Kai Watch 3 brings the trilogy to a conclusion and it really left the best for last, as this is easily the best game so far under the Yo-Kai Watch name. Even if its plot is not consistent when it comes to quality, Yo-Kai Watch 3 features plenty of high-level technical execution, new content and locations and gives the player an additional motivation to explore, which only creates more anticipation for what the series will bring in the future.

LEGRAND LEGACY: Tale of the Fatebounds does a good job at paying tribute to the JRPG of the 1990s and fans of the genre are most definitely likely to enjoy this experience, which is topped off by a very good visual environment and a quality content. The game will be less appealing to those outside the scope of the genre, who will mostly be put off by its lack of any new and innovative mechanics, as well as by its inconsistent plot and chance-based combat.

It's remarkable how a game that has such a well-written plot and such immersive, authentic worlds still needs considerable work when it comes to its controls, level design and overall quality of the puzzles. Still, for what it is, The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince can stand on its feet, provided the player is willing to be a bit lenient with its flaws.

7 / 10 - Nightshade
Mar 8, 2019

Nightshade is a new contribution to the number of visual novels in the Nintendo Switch and a necessary one for the fans of the genre. With its multiple plot lines, dark environment, alluring plot and fitting art style, Nightshade's flaws regarding its clichés and some sub-par endings amidst its multiple paths pose no obstacle to this being an involving and recommended experience.

X-Morph: Defense is a treat for fans of action and tower defense games, as its simple but fun mechanics will keep players marveled for many hours. Its origins in the PC world mean that its controls don't feel entirely correct on a console but the game's wonderful visual displays, not to mention its absurd and hilarious humour will be more than enough to build up on its gameplay mechanics.

7 / 10 - Marble It Up!
May 5, 2019

Marble It Up! is an example of a good, fun game that is based on quick, simple experiences and enjoyable gameplay mechanics, as well as on constantly improving one's performance. Yet and while Marble It Up! will certainly appeal to players who enjoy returning to the same level to improve their rank, players who have more simple experiences will find the emphasis on repetition to be too tiresome and the game's appeal will end up producing different results in different audiences.

5 / 10 - Coffee Crisis
May 20, 2019

Coffee Crisis on the Nintendo Switch is full of absurd and fun elements, with a plot that doesn't take itself too seriously and a memorable soundtrack that fits perfectly with the game's purpose. This would be perfect if the game could deliver on everything else with the same quality, and while Coffee Crisis certainly is enjoyable, its short length, difficulty problems and poorly roguelike elements mean that it falls short of breaking into the instant classic category, making this a mostly competent effort but which could have done so much more.
