Sky Force Anniversary has been out for some time but it's only reaching the Wii U now, even if it doesn't suffer from the time lag in its release. This is a game that features an enjoyable gameplay, a good cooperative mode and a decent visual environment. Standing in contrast, there's a rather slow start which can be enjoyed by beginner players and a repetitive soundtrack that could use some variety.

7 / 10 - Unexplored
Aug 21, 2018

Unexplorer: Unlocked Edition is a roguelike that intends to bring elements found in epic adventrure and RPG games while being light on plot and other devices in order to make its experience quick, simple and immediate. And it works, as the game features all the right elements commonly featured in other games of its kind and also brings additional content that was previously available on purchase. It also features a rather disappointing multiplayer component, as well as too long loading times and a sub-par sound environment, but the right elements are there.

Chicken Wiggle may have a lacklustre proposal for a main mode but its online component and level editor make all the difference. If a retro-styled 2D platformer is hardly something very original nowadays, Chicken Wiggle's additional elements beyond its main story turn out to be the game's big surprises and push it beyond a level where it would not quite stand out.

Culdcept Revolt brings together elements of several styles and not just from the videogame world but also from board games and card games, in an effort that boasts a very long lifespan and a strong competitive component. While it would make more sense to use the 3DS touchscreen, this feels like a game that can easily draw many hours away and its simplified mechanics and tutorials do a good job at welcoming new players to this series.

Road Redemption is not the average racing game - by combining racing and action with a few RPG elements when it comes to progression, Road Redemption got its formula right when it comes to gameplay, aided by a very healthy lifespan that will keep players around it for a good amount of time.

Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaire's Conspiracy has a big legacy to honour and by most accounts, it succeeds at it thanks to its varied puzzles, high quality audiovisual environment and interesting plot. At the same time, this game also tries to make the Layton series more accessible to a wider audience at the cost of reducing its difficulty level, which may not please all the series' followers.

New Style Boutique 3 – Styling Star joins several genres in one game that creates an interesting and fun experience out of the apparently limited role of managing a clothing store. Featuring an enormous amount of content and a good and abundant stream of customization options, New Style Boutique 3 may not appeal to all audiences but it's certainly not without its merits.

Sky Force Reloaded for the Nintendo Switch is a welcome addition of a game that will certainly please fans of the 2D shooting genre, thanks to its good gameplay mechanics and cooperative mode. Where Sky Force Reloaded loses out is on its price, as the Nintendo Switch version asks for a value that is not requested for its free mobile counterpart.

The Next Penelope: Race to Odysseus is an unexpected surprise, a racing game that features a plot and one that involves classical mythology is certainly unusual but its wide variety of content and challenging level, as well as simple and intuitive gameplay, make this game stand out. Pity that it lacks an online multiplayer component.

Bridge Constructor Portal is a welcome addition to the Nintendo Switch catalog and one which captures the Portal universe in a competent and well crafted way. While the experience can get a bit repetitive on some moments and the price is higher than that requested for the same game on mobile platforms, the game features a long lifespan, plenty of well-written humour and a constant level of challenge.

7 / 10 - Hammerwatch
Mar 4, 2018

Hammerwatch is a very welcome addition to the Nintendo Switch catalog that brings a fluid visual environment, a good variety of characters and a well developed local multiplayer mode to a retro-style adventure game that will certainly entertain many players. While the solo mode is less compelling than the local multiplayer and the promised online multiplayer is not available from the start, Hammerwatch is well worth a visit from those looking for an action-packed adventure.

Tesla vs Lovecraft brings some unorthodox elements to the Nintendo Switch and they work: the game's action-packed screens pass the fluidity test and the gameplay is simple and fun, also thanks to its precise control system. The game also features a four-player cooperative mode and an impressively detailed visual environment, which altogether contribute this to make a significant entry in the growing list of Nintendo Switch games.

Twin Robots Ultimate Edition brings to the Nintendo Switch a solid and fun 2D platformer with a strategy component to help it stand out among its peers. Thanks to its cooperative mode, its system of achievements and lifespan, this is game worth considering even if it would certainly benefit from some more elements to help it differentiate itself from other 2D platformers on the console.

7 / 10 - Golem Gates
Jun 9, 2019

Golem Gates lands on the Nintendo Switch as a proposal that merges Real Time Strategy elements with card-based strategy games and it does a very good job at it, even if it can become too easy after the player is fully invested into the game. Golem Gates also features an involving degree of strategic complexity, a carefully crafted art style and online functionalities that are more than welcome in this effort that is certain to please fans of RTS and card-based strategy games.

Based on the two movies of the Incredibles line, the Nintendo Switch is getting a game that features LEGO's and Disney's signature audiovisual quality, a fun, open world to explore with plenty of unlockable content, and an interesting plot full of humorous elements. If its loading times were shorter and there were less technical flaws on its execution, as well as a more involving combat system, then LEGO The Incedibles would be an instant classic, rather than just falling short of it.

Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! bring a new approach to the Pokémon series that makes these twin games more accessible to a broader audience, as well as a series of new and welcome features to the gameplay, including an interesting cooperative mode. All aspirations are not satisfied, however, as online gameplay is too limited, the motion controls included lose interest fast and the challenge is overall below that of other Pokémon games, but that does not mean these are not two well-executed works that will certainly bring some hours of fun and involvement to players new and old.

Heroki is a fun and entertaining 2D platformer that may not bring anything groundbreaking but is good at what it does. Thanks to its simple and accessible controllers, competent level design and a heap of collectible items to obtain, Hiroki provides a simple but not any less enjoyable platforming experience in the Nintendo Switch catalog.

Debris Infinity draws direct inspiration from the most popular 1980s 2D arcade shooters to deliver a fun and intuitive experience, along with an enjoyable multiplayer component, topped by its online leaderboards that get updated in real time. It will take more than this, however, to convince players that want more than a simple high score challenge, but fans of the simple gameplay that Debris Infinity recreates will find plenty of reasons to enjoy this title.
