I'm an enthusiast of handhelds, visual novels and Japanese RPGs.
7 / 10.0 - Felix the Cat
Apr 8, 2024

Felix the Cat is a modest but charming platformer. The rerelease, which includes both the NES and GB editions, is simple, but well-handled. It particularly adds features that considerably improve the experience quality of life, but it's only the basic for old game ports.

8.5 / 10.0 - GYLT
Apr 3, 2024

GYLT is a genuine survival horror adventure with an ambientation reminiscent of children's school context. From the perspective of a small girl, the somber world we face is horrifying and the game manages to convey all the tension and incentivize exploration with a competent work of envirojnment and puzzle creation using basic mechanics as a base.

9 / 10.0 - Dungeon Drafters
Mar 26, 2024

Dungeon Drafters is a model title for its genre. It's the kind of challenging and addictive experience that makes players spend way more time than they expect. It's an excellent pick that fits the Switch [library] really well.

10 / 10.0 - Unicorn Overlord
Mar 26, 2024

Unicorn Overlord is a strategic RPG that already demonstrates at its launch the qualities to become a great classic of the genre. This is an exemplary title that manages to bring great freshness to a market that insists on mostly repeating the same tactical structure over and over instead of looking at other possibilities. Equally deep in mechanics and inviting to newcomers, there's no real reason not to recommend it to all players.

In the end, The Legend of Legacy HD Remastered doesn't make much of an effort to renovate the original work. What we have here is an RPG that can be interesting only for the most passionate about the genre who are looking for a loose experience focused on combat and grinding.

Death Trick: Double Blind is a criminal investigation adventure that attracts attention with its well-written plot and strategic gameplay challenge. When reaching the end, it is possible to notice all the quality of what has been built up to that point, but the game may not be so suitable for those who want a casual investigation experience, as errors in the search for the truth can generate a frustrating snowball .

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth does an excellent job at reworking the universe of one of the biggest classics in the genre. There are certain elements that deserved more polish, especially on the game's technical side, but the end result is a fantastic experience and once again a reference within its genre.

Mediterranea Inferno is a deeply sensible work in its discussions and manages to offer an instigating psychodelic view of current social issues. The lives of the three sun boys is a curious way to think about our own blemishes, the world we live in, and what we wish for the future. Even with a few technical issues, this is a must-play and the ultimate proof of Lorenzo Redaelli's skill as a creator.

Piczle Cross: Story of Seasons is an unexpected but rewarding way to revisit our memories of the farm life. The game manages to execute well what it proposes: a simple puzzle challenge but with plenty of love for the works it represents.

8.5 / 10.0 - Ufouria: The Saga 2
Feb 28, 2024

Ufouria the Saga 2 is a charming and funny platformer that captivates with its style. The work is relatively simple compared to some of the giants of the genre, but it is deeply fun in what it sets out to do.

Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island is an excellent example of how roguelikes can be addicting by combining the right dose of punishment and reward. Here we have a game that knows what its public wants and deserves to stand out in Switch's library.

KONOSUBA - God's Blessing on this Wonderful World! Love For These Clothes Of Desire! is a fun combo of routine simulator and visual novel. Making the most out of the characters' charisma and the series' type of humor, the title manages to be an excellent pick in the genre.

8 / 10.0 - Sympathy Kiss
Feb 20, 2024

Sympathy Kiss is a pleasant otome visual novel with good variety in its routes, a curious narrative about daily life as a Japanese salary woman, and great quality of life features as usual of Otomate. Though the inconsistencies of a bad attempt at a self-insert protagonist hinder the game, the work's qualities and a good English translation manage to balance out the issues and let Amasawa's story shine.

GUNVOLT RECORDS: Cychronicle is an unusual spin-off, but a welcome addition to the franchise. Being able to enjoy the captivating soundtracks from the games is a great choice for the fans. However, for those who are in this group but don't have familiarity with the genre, the experience demands patience and dedication, as the quick tempo of the songs makes even the easiest stages demanding.

Spirit Hunter: Death Mark II decides to take a more experimental [gameplay] exploration instead of making the most out of what was already consolidated in its predecessors. Unfortunately, the end result is more frustrating than ideal, making this game not hit the same quality of previous titles, even with its interesting story and good audiovisual production.

Omurice Next Time is a simple but competent work. By representing the microcosm of a couple with no big ambitions, Griffin Cyan gives us a very comfortable and fun slice-of-life. For anyone interested in a dose of cuteness and warmth, this is an easy recommendation.

Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy may not be the high point of the series so far, but it is a great representative of its charisma and a very important part of its story, adding curious mechanical elements to the lawyers' experience. With quality of life elements and extras from the Museum, the story of Apollo, Phoenix and Athena features captivating characters in bizarre cases and is much easier to enjoy in the new collection.

Criminal Border 1st Offence offers a unique blend of engaging narrative and complex character development, set against the backdrop of a digital drug saga. The visual novel excels in subverting gender stereotypes and presenting a rich, glitch-inspired aesthetic with a fitting digital soundtrack. However, the game's heavy editing for certain platforms and its niche appeal for adult audiences may limit its accessibility. Despite these drawbacks, its deep exploration of human desires, moral dilemmas, and the unforeseen consequences of technology make it a thought-provoking title. Overall, it sets a strong foundation for its sequels, promising a continued exploration of dark and introspective themes.
