3 / 10.0 - Saturnalia
Nov 9, 2022

It's really sad that I wasn't able to enjoy Saturnalia with the expectation I created for the game — and if I had the patience to play it for two hours, that was a lot. The Switch's low processing power makes the experience frustrating and unplayable, ruining the full potential of this incredible Italian survival horror.

Demonizing and trivializing mental disorders, using 19th century stereotypes and terms, just proves how problematic the Reflection of Mine story is. The highlight of this title, which should be solving the puzzles, ends up buried in an infinite and restrictive loop of trial and error. It may seem challenging at first, but it soon becomes frustrating.

Indigo 7: Quest for Love has simple gameplay and a satisfying visual presentation, but that's all the positives this puzzle has to offer. The lack of an options menu, long matches based on trial and error and a weak story are some of the problems. It even entertains at first, but soon falls into tedious repetitiveness and, consequently, into oblivion.

How To Take Off Your Mask Remastered is a ok game, but unfortunately it falls short as a visual novel, especially in a narrative extremely poor in content and, above all, incomplete - in the end, we have only a simple and predictable novel entitled to two equally banal endings, which can be achieved with very few hours of gameplay.

4 / 10.0 - Apparition
Dec 14, 2020

Even with an interesting and promising premise, and immersive graphics, Apparition does not take advantage of the good idea under which the game appears to have been developed. The result is a disastrous execution that suffers from serious game design problems, confusing controls and a bad interface, which make the real horror the game itself.

5 / 10.0 - Tasomachi
May 19, 2022

Tasomachi: Behind the Twilight, as an action platformer, leaves something to be desired. Had it been announced as an exploration simulator, or even as an “ongoing project”, the title even fulfills its role. In terms of visuals, music and gameplay, Yukumo's adventure shows great potential; on the other hand, these positives aren't enough to make Tasomachi escape the fog of oblivion.

Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp has an interesting premise for a game but it unfortunately doesn't fit the standards of the Switch. Considering its gameplay and gacha features, it would be more attractive as one of the many "freemium" titles available for mobile devices. Unfortunately, not even seeing your favorite characters in swimsuits is enough to make it an attractive game.

Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon? Infinite Combate had the potential to be better, especially if it was released a few years ago for Nintendo 3DS. It is a title that insults dungeon crawlers and RPGs in general, although it has some good points and is noob friendly. In addition, instead of recommending it, I think it is more advantageous to watch the animation. Trying to find positive points to compesate it's problems disappointed me, just like the animation.

In short, Pokémon Café Mix is not bad; on the contrary, it is fun, colorful and with a good presentation. However, it is just a simple aperitif, which can become nauseating if served continuously.

5.5 / 10.0 - Paradigm Paradox
Oct 20, 2022

Paradigm Paradox is one of Otomate's shortest visual novels I played so far. Sincerely speaking, the time it took to clear some of those routes was the same eight hours it took me to read some indie visual novels (also on Switch) — and those had better developed plot, by the way. Sadly, the impression it leaves is that [the developers] prioritized quantity instead of quality, but, you may take solace in its beautiful artwork.

Reminiscence in the Night is the type of game that has different effects on each individual, depending on how much we are willing to emotionally invest in this introspective journey. The recommendation is for those who like to take time to themselves and lose themselves in thoughts and daydreams. If seen as an experimental project based on introspection and reflection, Reminiscence in the Night fulfills its role; as a game, it can be disappointing.

5.5 / 10.0 - Micetopia
Dec 7, 2020

Rich's adventure in Mycetopia is recommended for all players. With simple and accessible narrative and gameplay, without many flourishes, this timid metroidvania entertains in the right measure, even if it leaves something to be desired. However, it is the typical case of "take it or leave it": just as it attracts those looking for casual experiences, it can turn off enthusiasts of the metroidvania genre.

Yohane the Parhelion -Blaze in the Deepblue- has a major underutilized potential, be it as a metroidvania or as a product for Love Live! fans. From scenery and enemies that get tiresome over time to the few memorable tracks, the only strengths [of the game] end up as the 2D illustrations and the humorous dialogues dubbed by the animation's original cast. Obviously, this doesn't mean Yohane's adventure doesn't have its highlights, especially as a good entrypoint for metroidvania newcomers, but there are better titles in the market for the fans of the genre.

Record of Agarest War is another example of how a niche genre continues niche. The Switch port is competent and the game has some weak points, but with a weak narrative and way too sluggish combats, this RPG is hard to recommend nowadays. However, for those who want to revive the nostalgic times that won't come back, especially the games industry of the 2000's, Agarest War can be a good distraction to enjoy in homeopathic doses.

Bai Qu: Hundreds of Melodies suffers from serious problems that compromise the game in some way. However, the experience provided by this incredible story of approximately ten hours manages to offset these inconveniences and is a treat for lovers of intriguing plots, especially those who treat life as it is: sweet but bitter at the same time.

6 / 10.0 - Tamiku
Dec 11, 2020

Tamiku is the typical game that falls easily into oblivion as soon as the player gets tired of it, having completed it or not. Although the game is almost flawless, the gameplay is too modern to evoke a nostalgia feeling and its high difficulty is more frustrating that encouraging.

Prinny 1 • 2: Exploded and Reloaded is a bit frustrating, but at the same time it offers a good feeling of reward when you finally overcome the hard obstacles. Perhaps hardcore or nostalgic players will appreciate the high difficulty, as it is certainly not a game for beginners. In short, the bundle brings together two niche platformers that will only make sense to anyone who knows Disgaea - or perhaps, who knows, to people who have plenty of patience.

6.5 / 10.0 - CRYMACHINA
Oct 25, 2023

Crymachina stays on the fence in many aspects, but it doesn't manage to be as bad as it seems, as long as the player keeps in mind its weak points. However, it's a mistake to regard it as a spiritual successor to Crystar, especially when it comes to battles, narrative and ambientation, but these latter two aspects, which carry the concept of the game, manage to sustain the arduous (and unbalanced) task to explore the diverse sections of the Eden spaceship.

6.5 / 10.0 - Cross Tails
Jul 20, 2023

Though it brings a vast character customization, an entertaining story and the possibility to visit the same story from two different perspectives, Cross Tails doesn't manage to be a highlight in any of these aspects among RPGs, as other games in the genre managed to do everything this KEMCO title proposes better. Besides, the audiovisual presentation also leaves something to be desired despite running well on Switch. Nowadays, there are better RPG options in the market. It's not enough to show potential if it's constantly hindered by the grinding in the long run.

6.5 / 10.0 - Samurai Maiden
Dec 8, 2022

Samurai Maiden, in terms of content and action, is a competent hack 'n' slash, even more so for including different gameplay options thanks to Tsumugi's interaction with Iyo, Hagane and Komimi. In addition, the game has an interesting story, even if it relies on narrative clichés and fanservice. However, as much as the visual presentation is impeccable, even more so taking into account the dated hardware of the Switch, the game suffers from serious performance problems, making the hybrid console not the best option for Samurai Maiden.
