6.5 / 10.0 - Killsquad
Aug 11, 2023

The years haven't been kind to Killsquad: if when originally released it wasn't already great, now its arrival on consoles is just ok. The biggest problems are due to the connection and the creation of teams, not to mention the somewhat generic proposal in general. There is fun in battles and missions, especially among friends, and with rewards that don't depend on loot boxes, but nothing that justifies a long-term investment. The suggestion is only for those who are really lovers of the genre or had already checked out the title on the PC and want to have it on the console.

8.5 / 10.0 - Garlic
Aug 1, 2023

Don't let the curious name and unexpected concept frighten you: Garlic is an excellent platformer that uses a simple gameplay to offer fun and addicting challenges. Beyond that, its diverse minigames complement the game about the garlic man that needs to climb a tower to meet his dream cyborg.[...] It still is a little below what would make it a real must-play but it's no doubt a great recommendation for your library.

Possibly Sega's definitive hedgehog collection (but probably not the last), Sonic Origins Plus managed to go a little further than the base title. Major additions include 12 Game Gear games and the availability of more playable characters. The point is that Plus is not justified for all audiences, as the content is not very interesting — in fact, Origins was not exactly perfect. Therefore, this is a good suggestion for any library, and only those most passionate about the character should prioritize the acquisition of the complete package.

7.5 / 10.0 - Company of Heroes 3
Jun 29, 2023

It's not often that a strategy game manages to be as dynamic and addictive as Company of Heroes 3 - Console Edition. With a good variety of features and fun campaign and multiplayer modes, it's easy to get involved in the competitive battles set in World War II. There are a few problems that make the player's life difficult, but make no mistake: if you're a fan of games that require tactics and planning, preferably seasoned with a good dose of action, then this is a great addition to your library.

4 / 10.0 - LASERPITIUM
Jun 17, 2023

Even if the biggest issue were only the extremely simplistic proposal, Laserpitium would still be a hard choice for anyone who isn't a hardcore shoot'em up fan. However, it went beyond: a lacking presentation, pitiful story, generic graphic style and bad gameplay, along with bad ideas in every aspect, make the game even worse. It's functional and even has some minimal qualities that maybe could, perhaps, satisfy fans of the genre; for anyone else, I'd suggest searching for other options in the stores.

8 / 10.0 - Nightmare Reaper
Jun 1, 2023

Keeping very close to the classics of the genre, enriched with modern elements, Nightmare Reaper is a great FPS game, especially for Doom fans and co. The shootings are always fun and with a balanced difficulty, enhanced by a very rich arsenal. Some elements aren't very good, but it's still a nice addition to your library.

8 / 10.0 - Strayed Lights
May 3, 2023

Though we're still in May, I can already say Strayed Lights is one of the great surprises of 2023. The beautiful and enchanting visuals contrast perfectly to the intense, addicting combat, turning the exploration and action experience memorable. It ends up lacking in a few areas but it's more about wanting more of it. Maybe a future update, expansion and/or continuation could take this good concept to the level it deserves.

The task was not easy, but the positive expectations were confirmed: Resident Evil 4 is a worthy remake of the original. The updated visuals have made the dark and desolate atmosphere even better, and in terms of the campaign, we have an adventure here that is on par with the quality of the original. In fact, it manages to surpass it in several moments, with better-written characters and better use of the horror element. The remake does not replace the original adventure, but stands side by side as a unique, rich, well-constructed and addictive experience. More than direct comparisons, here we have a rare case where carefully executed changes make the new release superior in several ways, always respecting what worked well. Whether you're a novice or veteran, this is an absolute must-have game.

Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is made up of mostly good quality photos. The game itself is fun and solid, delivering a competent story and unusual and addictive combat. Exploration and puzzle solving are also strengths, as are the positives brought about by the remastering process. Unfortunately, it didn't rid the game of some very ugly textures and confusing gameplay when trying to control the characters and their lanterns. It also doesn't help that exploration is somewhat slow and plot development requires a lot of reading. Although a remake would perhaps have been a better option, these problems do not compromise the experience, especially for fans of the genre or those who were very curious about this unique and competent proposal.

9 / 10.0 - Persona 4 Golden
Feb 6, 2023

More than 10 years after its original release, Persona 4 Golden is finally available for modern consoles. Its qualities include an engaging investigation story, fun characters, several interesting side quests and challenging battles. Certainly, the ideal would be for it to present improvements over the original, but still, what we have available is worthy of the best JRPGs and a must-have in your library.

Bringing an unprecedented adventure in the best cartoon style, SpongeBob: The Cosmic Shake is a competent platform game. The simple gameplay works well and offers all sorts of different challenges, even if generally not very challenging. The nice visuals and great voice acting make for a very entertaining story.

With even more polished visuals, especially in terms of lighting and textures, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition expands the original experience with new items, a new mission inspired by the Netflix series and several gameplay improvements, not to mention a system for access saves on any device. Whether you're a veteran who can get your free copy of the new edition or a new player, this is a must-have title in your library.

Even though it's the brand's first entry in a new genre, Marvel’s Midnight Suns reached a respect-worthy result. With an interesting general plot and good use of the diverse elements of the famous comics brand, the game presents a fun strategic combat system with cards. It's difficult to ignore the below-average visuals but they work well in the battles and do not compromise the full package. If you're a fan of the genre, the Marvel universe or feel curious about the idea, it certainly is an excellent suggestion for your library.

With a proposal focused on terror, The Callisto Protocol succeeds in offering a solid, scary and addictive adventure. The battles are challenging and the setting is great, leaving that constant apprehension in each new corridor and room explored. It's not an absolute masterpiece, but it's certainly one of the best recent releases in the genre and deserves a place in your library.

6 / 10.0 - Samurai Maiden
Dec 8, 2022

There's no denying that Samurai Maiden manages to deliver on its flagship role: an accessible hack and slash featuring beautiful anime-style schoolgirls, ninjas, and samurai. In fact, it even goes further, bringing some good qualities to players in general, such as challenging fights and interesting content. Unfortunately, a half-assed technical production and lack of focus on important elements leave the recommendation limited only to ardent fans of what it really has to offer.

8 / 10.0 - Evil West
Dec 3, 2022

In the end, Evil West is one of the examples that reinforce the most important aspect of a videogame: the fun of playing. In this case, fighting against supernatural monsters in a beautiful and challenging western setting. Of course, a more developed story that fit well with the combats would have been great, as well as having more variety to the missions. Even so, this is a a release full of action and big qualities for fans of the genre.

8 / 10.0 - Marvel Snap
Nov 26, 2022

With accessible gameplay and addictive mechanics, Marvel Snap is one of those free-to-play gems on smartphones and PCs. Other qualities of this great card game include the beautiful visuals and effects, all creatively inspired by the Marvel comics universe. It's a shame that we only have one way to enjoy the games, but there's nothing to fear: with a very solid foundation, the future is promising and the sky is the limit for this great game.

I admit my general impression of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is mixed. On the one hand, the campaign is only average and various elements demand polishing, but on the other hand, we have an excellent gameplay and beautiful production. Personally, I see the balance pending to the positive side, especially with the upcoming Warzone 2.0 and the promise of longer [multiplayer support] life time.

8 / 10.0 - No More Heroes 3
Oct 24, 2022

I admit that my expectations for No More Heroes III were high. Despite the technical limitations, in the end the production met my expectations. As in previous titles, we have an adventure full of emotion and madness, extreme combat and that characteristic charm. I'm hoping this isn't the real end of the franchise and that, one day, we can once again have fun with Travis and friends.

Oct 23, 2022

Though my initial expectation was modest, I admit Asterigos: Curse of the Stars surprised me a lot. The action RPG genre is one of the most popular in recent times but the game managed to have its own personality. Combat is fun, the visual style is enchanting and the adventure thrilling. As an indie, the production ended up lacking in a few areas but nothing that compromises the package as a whole. In fact, the variety of resources to deal with battles is just as good as any other [good action RPG] games. If you're a fan of the Souls genre, this is a good option for your library; if you aren't, it is still a great entrypoint into a challenging yet equally rewarding world.
